Delta 8/20/07 New Hire Class Assignments

16- 757/767 Atlanta

10- 767ER JFK

5 - 73N JFK

No MD-88 slots in this class. Were told to expect classes of 70 a month until the end of the year at least. Also there will be 60+ more new hires going into the 76ER soon in NYC and ATL

Wow, never thought I would see the day that new hires were going to the ER.

It should be a great training event. Going to the ER, learning the Delta way, and international ops all on 2750 a month while in a crash pad. Sounds like a blast.
Yes, there were a lot of un filled positions in NYC. A few in ATL as well. Like I said, the increase in pay is not worth 9-12 day trips.

I agree that it does sound like a lot to take on. They didn't have much of a choice. The ATL domestic slots were all taken. Guess they will be the guinea pigs.

this goes to show you how crappy this industry really is anymore.
The people in the know that already work here don't want theses so called coveted positions so the new hires get to live the dream.
Until the reality of this hit them too.
Good luck guy have fun be safe.

How long would it take to hold anything out in SLC?

I wouldn't think a 1950 hire F/A should qualify as a a "score." Oh well, at least the sex should be safe.

36 hour layovers in RIO will do the trick. Or those mail order brides in KIEV and MOSCOW. Watch it out there boys!

These are trips that they are building. They are not being flown yet. I am not sure when you will see them in a bid package near you.
If they can get a more people to bid NYC, I would venture to guess that there will less of them. After the current AE they need more than 100 FO's on the ER in NYC. That said, from what the boys in planning are doing, I would guess that you will see them in the near future.

The longest trip in NYC is 6 days (SVO & CDG). ATL has the longer trips.

NYC will get the JFK--Sao Paulo--ATL--Sao Paulo--JFK trip next month. That is worth 41 hours I believe in 6 days. They are switching it to NYC crews because the 36 hour layover in ATL between the Sao Paulos is cheaper than sending 3 pilots to Manhattan for 36 hours in the middle of the trip.

And yes, ATL has some 9 day trips to FRA and LGW that originate like this: ATL--FRA--JFK--FRA--CVG--FRA--ATL and the same with London Gatwick. They are worth up to 61 hours in 9 days.(late start first day, and mid afternoon arrival the last day--very commutable)

What do you do the rest of the month? If anything.

Probably another 3 day trip worth 17-18 hours to get in the average line value. Most guys fly around 80 hours a month, with a little more in the Summer.

So I guess you would end up with about 18 days off. Guess there are pro and cons.

If you got that trip, yes. Remember, there is no 30 in 7 rule for INTL flying, so you can put 2 3 day trips back to back, or fly a six day, or fly 12 straight days if you want and can hold it. (there is a 12 hour rule between trips I believe---you need to have 12 hours off between trips) Some guys can possibly do 2 3 day Athens trips back to back, have a night off in between in ATL, and get 42 hours in 6 days. If you do that twice every other week, you could do a total of 4 3 day trips and have 84 hours. There are plenty of combinations. But, most South American trips are 4 day trips with 36 hours down range---leave late on the first day and fly allnight to Rio, Buenos Aires, or Santiago, and come back allnight and land at 6 or 7 am on the fourth day, and those are worth about 20 hours for a 4 day. They aren't as senior, unless you unexpectantly have another family down there by mistake. ;) Rio seems to go senior for some reason......

Any talk of an eventual 765 or 777 domicile in NYC?

Cmon guys, are 60-year-old FAs rule... nothing like a good gummin. :)

Welcome to the ER new hires!

It'll be a fire hose at first, but all the airplanes are that way. After you get the hang of it, you'll be enjoying your layovers, getting good rest, eating some good food and seeing some great places. And if you are single...well....

One of the best parts of this airline and you get to see it from the start...not too shabby.

do they let new hires bid or s everyone assigned aircraft and domiciles?
It seems stupid to me to assign someone ATL 88 or 76ER when they live and would love to be in NY instead....or vice a versa!

If you are assigned a position in new hire class then you do not have a seat lock. So all these guys that have been assigned up to NYC can bid off on the next bid which appears to be in November.

!

All new hires bid on base/equip based on seniority. Higher the last four of your SSN, the happier you are.

So instead of asking where guys would rather be they assign it and then let people bid off before they are even out of training?!?!? This seems like a HUGE waste of money and time. Training someone on MD88 NYC then letting them bid 73 ATL while in training.
Why not save the expense and ask first then assign....
