And a serious question from the ground....

Just how hard is it to maintain situational awareness in the average jet cockpit nowadays? I mean most folks have FMS, TCAS, etc. I'm not asking to be a smart azz, I just haven't been in a jet cockpit in years now. My own Cessna has a KMD-150 VFR GPS in it. Has basic terrain and obstructions. I can range out as far as needed to keep the airport and nearby VORs on screen.

I understand about the fuel question. And obviously, some ancient check-haulin' twin Cessna with dual KX-170s is in a bind, but I really didn't think it was such a big deal in most jets nowadays. (Outside a few old -9s and 732s that is.)

Hopefully a few Center guys will check in with their view. Honestly, any EFC I give is just a guess anyway. It may be a slightly educated guess, but just a guess none the less...
