Definitions please?

Would someone be kind enough to post the current definitions of:

1. Alter-ego

2. Operational integration

3. Merger

as they currently exist in ALPA's Constitution and Bylaws?

Those terms do not exist in the ALPA C&BL. The C&BL dictates the way ALPA as an organization will operate and then the Admin Manual further lays that out.

But (my rough stab):

1. Alter-ego: A term used to describe an airline (or company) created by a parent company to circumvent the Collective Bargaining Agreement of an airline (or company) that is already doing the same work.

2. Operational integration: The combination of operational and managment structures of 2 (or more) airlines (or companies) in the event of a merger or acquisition. Two (or more) airlines can be merged but not necessarily operationally integrated (i.e. operated as two separate companies.)

3. Merger: (Kinda gray really) The business acquisition of one (or more) airlines (or companies) by another with the intent to operate them as a single operation or divisions within the same parent company.

The ALPA Admin Manual does define a Merger as when two airlines are "significantly operationally integrated." That's kinda like AWA and USAir right now...they are merged but have not been operationally integrated. They will be in the future and that is when the ALPA Merger Policy will be used to come to a fair and equitable agreement on seniority integration -- probably already in the works.

Admin manual is BIG...it can either be downloaded in a .zip file or you can download the individual .pdfs for each section. Then just use Adobe to search for the terms you are looking for. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't find definitions for the other two terms.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your perspective, I'm not represented by ALPA so I don't have access to the manual on the public portion of the website unless I've missed something.
