Just received the email of a job offer on CAL operation side for a December class date. Reflecting 11 years ago to be relatively new to United and know that a furlough would most likely be coming. 5 year furlough followed...never went to the regional job offer. Recalled in 2007 and furloughed again in 2009. Now job offer on Sept 11th.

The good news seems to be attrition due to retirements and hopefully a better contract. It's been a tough decade. Hope to see more positive movement in this industry.

Good luck to all the other furloughees out there.

kj6991 I am sorry you dont share a passion for wanting to stay up with the hiring in the industry. I guess you must be at your dream job. If you are good for you.

Huh? How do you know what passion I share and don't? I simply said you are annoying. Question after question after question. If you are so well up on the hiring you should know that the UNICAL pilot window opening up for street hiring right now is pure speculation and optimistic assumptions depending on how many L-UAL pilots accept fall classes on the CAL side, but nothing has been officially announced by anyone. Stop asking, start reading.

Doesn't UAL have over 1000 furloughees on the street right now, I know I work with one

Yes, but a lot of guys would rather wait until they can come back to work either under the current UAL contract or a new joint contract, but definitely not under the CAL contract. Our (CAL) work rules are pretty spartan, especially if you have to spend any time on reserve. On the plus side, we'll have 737 and 756 vacancies after this bid so pilots are going to have to come from somewhere.

kj6991 The last time I checked this is flightinfo thread, we keep everybody inform if you dont like questions then don't participate. This is a family here and we dont mind anwering questions for one another. If it's annoying to you I am sorry you feel the way. Yes, I am aware UNICAL pilot window opening up for street hiring right now is pure speculation and optimistic assumptions depending on how many L-UAL pilots accept fall classes on the CAL side. But sooner or later these speculation will become truths, this thread might be the one providing the up to date information. That's why I keep questions coming, to keep the thread a live.

Specifically tell me your info and sources that this speculation will become truth? That's right you can't, hence assumptions and why nothing is a certainty. And, if like you said above in your post that you were already aware the UNICAL pilot window opening is speculation, why did you ask the question in the first place?

I asked the question in hopes of receiving new and current developments from those from within.

Well I'll try to bring my post back to my intended focus...flying again. Personally I have been blessed to stay in aviation and have the option to return to the cockpit.

To share what I know from speaking with both UAL and CAL representatives (who have been very helpful and professionally outstanding). The news is...officially classes every Tuesday until Dec 18. Unofficially (no announcement yet) there are hundreds of vacancies...with most likely class into next year. United furloughees who choose to pass on the CAL offer may do so, and may place their name back in at a later date. Unfilled seats will be filled with new hires off the street.

That is the best info I can pass along. My understanding is many UAL who have returned to the CAL flying are adjusting to a different contract and hoping for a better one. Let's hope for an industry leading contract..not just for UAL, but for all of us as professional aviators!

Good luck to all.

I am accepting the offer and returning. Life is great and I love flying. I think from speaking to many pilots at both UAL and CAL...it's a good time. Attrition will pick up and there will be more vacancies. If I'm wrong...well...that's what makes life interesting!

A couple of furloughs has taught me nothing is for sure. Just enjoy the ride while you can!

Tough is an understatement. It's good that they are starting to recall.

I know from the outside it looks like a recall, and not picking a fight or starting flame, however it is a job offer. No longevity for pay purposes until you have been at CAL long enough and no credit for vacation etc. Treated as a new hire for the purpose of first of the month pay advance too. Glad to see more furloughed pilots flying again but it is very different than a recall.

I 100% guarantee you that uncial will be opening their hiring window sometime between tomorrow and 2072 as 100% of current pilots will have reached 65 by then. It is not speculation as to if the uncial window will open... It's a question of when. Unless of course you are speculating that uncial will not be around,or there will be no pilots on airplanes by then, but then that would make your statement even more speculative than Maddogs.

You are not expected to reply to every post. If you don't have anything to add...just keep scrolling.

Welcome in advance...I can tell you that our (L-CAL) latest system bid showed over 400 vacancies for fos in just about every base on the narrow bodies. That includes 756 in EWR and IAH. also once the combined seniority list is finalized, there will be 1 pilot retiring every 20 hours for the next 10 years or about 400+ a year.

There are large airplane orders as well. Assuming the contract is passed in the next year, reserve rules and pay will be similar to those at Delta ( so we hear) or at least vastly improved from today. It wont pass if they aren't

Dont let all the negativity get to you and enjoy the ride. Again welcome back
