My money is on Elliot Sadler.

My heart is with Ricky Rudd, Ken Schraeder, Mark Martin or Terry Labonte.

My anti-establishment vote is for Kurt Busch. Admit it, if Kurt was driving the 29 car, everyone would love him.

What think you?

Here's my top ten in order...

1. Dale, Jr.

2. Jimmie Johnson

3. Michael Waltrip

4. Bobby Labonte

5. Tony Stewart

8. Matt Kenseth

9. Kevin Harvick

10. Rusty Wallace

I can't think of a car you could put Kurt Busch in and I'd like him... except maybe an ambulance. Did I say that out loud? You ever watch his brother (Kyle) do victory laps/donuts even when he finishes 2nd? Just like school on Sunday... no class.

The rest of your drivers are good choices!!

I am looking for Rusty Wallace or Ward Burton to win this race. NO DEI!!!

Constant left turning with no right turns in sight.

also...some will crash, a few will not finish for one reason or another, and before all is said and done, one lone winner will surface :p

DEI all the way. If these guys can stay out of trouble and be there at the end, there is no one out there that can stop them.

Just so long as it isn't the 15. Time for Dale Jr. to get his day in the Florida sun.

As long as it's not Gordo, I'll be happy! It would be cool to see Rusty out front at the end, but I am going to put my money on DEI. If they stay out of trouble, they will be serious contenders at the end.

I predict a long boring typcial restrictor plate race with a DEI car winning. Like there's any mystery to the plate races anymore??? Even with the new rule changes, things will not be any different. At least not so that anyone will notice. I'll probably find something else to do (like work on the guitar that I am building) until the real racing gets started during the next 6 weeks at North Carolina, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Darlington, Bristol (especially!!), and Texas.

i gotta agree with bugchaser. DEI owns daytona. i like dale jr. seems like a cool guy. waltrip is kind of a tool.

gotta stick by the man though. i'm gonna be watching for tony stewart to take the lead.

did anyone else become a tony stewart fan after the fights with gordon?

when he put gordon into the wall in pit lane after the race, i became a die hard stewart fan. he's my hero. :D

f*ck gordon.

Not that I'm a huge NASCAR fan, or care one way of the other, but it seems to me that people hate Jeff Gordon for the same reason they hate the Dallas Cowboys or the NY Yankess, etc. They are big budget teams and consistent winners. Some people just have a probelm with that. I think they just have a probelm, period. Good teams will rise to the top in any sport, and people seem to have a problem with that. Maybe it's jealousy. They can't stand to see the same teams on top consistently. And I guess he's not one of the "good 'ol boy rednecks". However, you can't argue with success. The Dallas Cowboys have been in 8 Super Bowls and won 5....tops in the NFL. The Yankees seem to own the World Series, and Jeff Gordon has 4 Championships and 64 wins in 365 starts.

These teams have no middle ground. You either love them or hate them, but virtually no one is indifferent about them. That's the price of success. Some people just seem to have a problem dealing with that.

My prediction: We won't get to see how any of this unfolds due to rain. I really hope I'm wrong...

Jimmie Johnson, and Kevin Harvick are my two favorites, Johnson has the better shot, and it's gonna be Eliot Saddler winning today. My fantasy team consists of Maritn, Busch, and Burton, so i'll be pulling for these guys also...i just hope the rain and Jeff Gordon (qualified 38) don't cause any problems...

one more quick question to ask everyone...which drivers, crewcheifs, and owners are pilots?

Kurt Busch flew into our airport last september and the "kid" flying his plane looked as if he wasn't old enough to buy the can of dip in his back pocket. he was really cool and we talked for about an hour, he had brought his private pilot instructor along as a "thank you" while flying the King Air...I'll bet it was on the dime of Roush Racing too...:D

I met Rusty Wallace when he flew a Lear 31 into our airport for gas. I asked him this same question... he said Mark Martin and Bill Elliott both fly regularly. Rusty has over 9000 hrs. Jack Roush is a pilot... and many would say a lucky one after crashing his experimenal twin.

Flying and Racing are similar in a lot of ways... you'd think many drivers would aspire to fly.

Plate tracks= DEI wins.

Starving CFI.......... Couldn't have said it better myself!!:D :D

I don't suppose you'd care to explain (since you felt the need to bring it up) WHY Jeff Gordon qualified 38th?? It wouldn't have anything to do with Dale Jr's protege Kasey Kahne's absolute bonehead move in the pits that resulted in an accident now would it??

Plate rates=DEI victories...yep, that's right. Why even bother? It's be that way until the racing community gets over the fact that Dale Earnhardt is no longer racing. Probably take a few more years...or until his buddy Mike Helton is no longer running the show.

The BIG one

Here's what I want to know.....

Since there isn't going to be a Bodine family member in this race to cause the big one... Who's going to do it in their place???

I use to see Dale Jr. tag along and play in the right seat of the CJ every now and then out of JQF where DEI keeps the planes. Good group of pilots ...

3 5 0

ps>> told ya'll he would win

:D

That pass for the lead was too much. Where do they hid the nitrous?

He was fast, but that one shot of speed gives it away.

now, if Jr. was driving anything but a bowtie, I'd defend him till the cows come home.

enigma, :D

I went to the race yesterday and sat right there in my Seagrave section seats...blew my mind how many folks in the stands were emotional after JRs win, WTF?!? A DEI car in victory lane after a restrictor plate race, who'd ever **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**en thought?

Mikey is obnoxious. I wish the safety workers would have left his big arse hanging upside down in that car for the rest of the season...and stuck his brother Darrell in there with him.

Think Roush was happy with the Yates engines?

The new 'aero' rules, tires and smaller fuel cells are all designed to decrease the possibility of the 'big one' while promoting the racing? Yeah right.

Tony is going to be tough this year. His pit stops were all lightening quick and unlike the DEI car in front of him, Tony will be a factor at non-plate races.

Give a call to the rookie Scott Wimmer for finishing third, not bad! I wonder if he was issued a breath test prior to the start.

Overall I thought the race was somewhat of a snoozer, the weather turned out great and it was neat to see the the Prez do a fly-by.

Nextel phone coverage sucked big time (as usual) during the first Nextel Cup race.

I'll be right there again next year. ;)

now i don't know if i'd call it an accident, but that had something to do with it...

I think it's quite obvious that the DEI cars are getting some real good restrictor plates these days. With the top teams and cars being pretty equal these days, there is no other explanation for the extra horse power that the DEI cars have.

Jr. and Waltrip are great drivers, but so are a lot of others. The pass Jr. made on Stuart to take the lead yesterday was way too easy to have been a simple drafting pass.

Jr. is the fan favorite. TV ratings and race sponsorship goes up when the top dog keeps winning..

Then add today's Bush win and his 125 win last week...

NASCAR quote of the year (so far):

"Tony [Eury, Sr.'s] an idiot. That's all I can say to that. Dale Jr. and I will drive the cars. He needs to worry about changing tires or whatever it is he does."

--Michael Waltrip

NBA quote of the year (so far):

"I think in America the gay people should be allowed to get married. But when you see Beyonce, why would you want to be gay?"
