All my sympathies to the Delta pilots - good luck - but the American public is full of ignorant fools. I was sitting at the airport the other day and heard several people comment when the airport TV's carried a brief CNN mention of the looming Delta strike. The comments were all words to the effect:
"Delta is losing millions of dollars and the pilots want MORE MONEY?!"
The American public automatically links the words "union" and "strike" with malcontent and lazy workers trying to ruin their employer. Most people are as stupid as Pavlov's dogs. Perhaps ALPA should take some of the money it's paying the staff in Herndon and hire a public relations firm to get the truth out there. Someone needs to loudly proclaim the message that airline managements in this country are working on flawed business models - they make lots of money in good times, but don't adjust to a market where they don't have pricing power, and are simply out of ideas.
Good luck.
