I don't think anyone should be getting all worked up as if new hires will be getting right in on more "senior" equipment. Don't you guys have HUNDREDS of RECALLS to come back first? Not like they haven't "paid their dues" and then some.By the time new hires get filtered in, I would think they should plan for NYC in the MD88 at best.

Until then, the "hiring" will likely just be adding people senior to the currently working junior people. Even if many recalls don't come back, there are still a lot out there that will.

Good point. I think there are about 300 out. Figure maybe half come back tops.

All will have pretty nice seniority on any of the equipment mentioned.

I think your right about "planning for the worse", but our -88 category in NY is relatively small (about 100 F/O slots) and I think about 60-70 just stayed even though they could have moved on. The -9 categories aren't that large either.

It will definitely be a junior seat, but I think their will be larger numbers of junior seats elsewhere....at least in the beginning.

One could easily think this but the word is no. Delta is planning on 50-60 returns out of the 305 new positions. 255 will come from Compass, Mesaba, Military and Other airlines. I am not sure how they know this but they have been very accurate on these plans in the past.

Does anyone know how this works for returnees?

I think they are still limited to whatever is available in their "class drop", not just what they can hold.

In that case there very well could be a returnee in NYC-88 in one class, but a new hire in the next class getting DTW 320 if that's what was dished out in the drop.

Come the following AE the "returnee" could bid to wherever there was an opening.

Not sure if that's how it works or not. I would imagine they will give the returnee's a larger selection of choices than the rest. Last time around returnee's already had their positions picked out before the first day of class.

To take this one step further, of the 255ish slots, roughly half will be flow through from Compass and Mesaba with the other half off the street.

Do flow-throughs keep their seniority and/or longevity from the express carrier, or do they start over? (I would think the latter)

Anyone know who to address a cover letter to?

No cover letters for Delta. Do any companies actually use cover letters anymore? I think almost everyone now has an online app process that you fill out and then a computer spits out who to call in. Fill out the airlineapps stuff, spell check it 5000 times, get some recs attached to it, and hope your name gets spit out of the computer to the hiring guys and you'll be set.

So when they ask for first class medical, are they talking issued within the last 12 months? My medical is originally issued first class, but I'm at the 18 month mark due to mil leave. Military aviation medical is current of course, not that it matters...

It must be under first class privileges, AKA in the first six months.

I asked before I interviewed and they told me to make sure it was less than six months old.
Not sure if that is the de facto truth, but that is what I was told when I called with that question a few moons ago.

Why even remotely take a chance on your flow? Does it really make a difference in your life if you spend the $100 now or in six months?

Thats why I asked the question. Money isn't the issue. Time is, since I deploy soon.

Where did you hear no probation? I haven't seen that.

Before I responded I wanted to read all of the the NWA LOA's and the Compass and Mesaba contracts.

You may be correct. I do not see any probation protection on the way up, only on the way down.

That said, many ppl have been stating what I did, but you are correct that it is not in there. If it is, I missed it. Granted it was aver 500 pages of text.

The rules for first class have changed. If you are under, what...35...then it is 1st class for 12 months. I would have to look it up to get the exact age, but that did change.

Doh, you are correct. It is under 40 for a first class and then every six if needed.

I forget that with the requirements for PIC and International ops. It is just every six and I dumped the rest. Good catch.

Per 61.23

If you hold a FIRST-CLASS medical certificate and on the date of your most recent medical certificate you were under the age of 40 and you are conducting an operation that requires an ATP then your medical certificate expires, for that operation, at the end of the last day of the 12th month after the date shown on the medical.

If you hold a FIRST-CLASS medical certificate and on the date of your most recent medical certificate you were age of 40 or older and you are conducting an operation that requires an ATP then your medical certificate expires, for that operation, at the end of the last day of the 6th month after the date shown on the medical.

So, per my understanding, you can get a first-class medical certificate when you are 39 yrs and 364 days of age and it would be a valid first-class medical certificate, with the privileges of a first class medical certificate, for the full 12 months and not revert to a second class medical after 6 months.

If you have passed the 31st of the 12th month since it was issued, it is no longer a first class and is a second, despite what the ink on the medical says. Get it redone (with the EKG if necessary).

Actually, it's still a First Class medical, but with Second Class privileges, if you want to be precise. But in practical terms, you are correct.

New hires will go into the 320 in DTW. Had the 4th floor on the jump seat..

No class ever goes all to one base and one airplane. It will be spread out where the needs are and where there are openings.

DTW 320, MSP 88, MSP 320 seem to be the biggest gaps. Perhaps the great white north of MSP isn't so great after all? :)

Actually, I think there was a class this last cycle that all went to NYC7ER. Could be wrong though.
