Custom Air Transport

What's the latest and greatest on Custom Air Transport? I have heard they are retiring their 727 fleet when the Dayton hub closes down. 747-200, 757, and DC-10 machines on the way. Any truth? Maybe I should put my resume in now.

It sounds more like CAT itself will be retired when UPS takes over it's newly purchased flying in DAY.

First 747-200 is on its way from Europe, as per conversation with the Chief Pilot. They are estimating the new type on their certificate by the end of the year. My resume is now in!

You sure your not confusing CAT with Focus? Thier 747-200 is in EHAM ready to come to the states.... already have a 747-300 parked on the north side of FLL.

Yes and yes. If Custom Air is getting 747's, I would think they have contracts and business for them.

I heard the same thing from one of their pilots, that they will be starting 747 ground school this summer in MIA, not sure where this aircraft is coming from, but here comes another 747 operator in an already crowded field!

I know it's not the only buisness they can get....there is always 727 work to do. But I don't think they're gonna find a contract that large. I don't hope for anyone to go out of buisness, ever. It's bad karma.

Plus, DAY closing is a long way away, one year can make a whole helluve lot of difference....

Actually it's only seven months away until CAT and the rest of the contractors have to stop flying the former Menlo freight.

I have heard there is some deal being made with Focus and CAT, since Focus is having a hard time with their certificate. UPS is also apparently pulling some planes out of the desert to start flying the DAY routes. So DAY flying may end sooner than expected.
