This news item was "out there" the day it happened. It is the first CRJ accident with fatal injuries that I am aware of. The CRJ hsd not been around that long. Comair just had a big press release about the 10 year anniversary of them being the inaugural customer for the Bombardier jet, and that they (CMR) just took delivery of their 143 CRJ. and ASA just taking delivery of number 100, on July 16th.

Yea, it is the first fatal accident in revenue service. Bombardier lost one in flight testing and Air Canada had a non-fatal go-around accident a few years back.

In my humble opinion, the RJ safety record is the great unsung achievement of the last 10 years. Imagine all the non-precision approaches, at night, in crappy weather, with (sometimes) lower-time pilots and ref speeds based on 1.5 Vstall. A dam' good airplane.

The unfortunate Air Canada RJ now lives at flightsafety ATL as the 'cabin trainer'. The galley carts still even have the cards on them telling when they were last stocked. (somewhere around the day of the crash, I assume.)
