May have been asked, but how did the crews get the CRJs to Hawaii? Extra Tanks or some obscure route?
Take all the seats out, add temporary fuel tanks, mega size jar of hair gel, charge the iPod in the galley outlet, and place the backpacks in the overhead bins!

All the seat were taken out and extra fuel tanks were installed throughout the cabin. They flew them from PHX to SFO then on to the HNL. Shipped the seats to meet the aircraft when they arrived in HNL to be re-installed. (I'm a LAMA Mech)

How much extra fuel did they need? The long range CRJ's shouldn't need that much more gas to get out there. Or were these the limited range models?

I'm not sure as to which model it was. They are all ex-Indy Air CRJ's which Mesa got a good lease deal on, along with spare parts, tools and ground equipment. I was part of the shopping trip. We had to ship most everything via conex trailers via freighters from L.A. I used to have pics of the aux fuel tanks after installation, but I forgot to transfer tem to disk before I left Mesa.

They probably got deleted off during the panic induced porn removal.
