Love how N505BC gives himself clearance to land at 2:25.

And incriminated himself landing with a tailwind in excess of 10 knots.

Why was anybody landing with wind of 330 gusting 25. High true air speeds plus tailwinds equals just what happened.

Agreed-the pilot received clearance to land and acknowledged with "Roger". Wonder if he really understood what was going on.

Sad and chilling.

Chilling audio to say the least. How many aircraft landed with tower reporting tailwinds exceeding max allowable TW component? 30 knots, good God Captain, divert!

Again, thoughts and prayers to all involved. I predict tighter restrictions into ASE going forward re: - wind reports and approach clearances. Let Biff and Muffy drive the hour from RIL and live to see another cocktail party.

Join the club my friend, I averaged once a week for over 16 years combined operating in and out of ASE. Starting out in Jet Commanders in the mid 70's and ending up in Falcon 50/900EXs.

The last three years before I retired I strarted dreaded going there. Unless clear and million with light winds.

I felt like the tower was covering itself. I have rarely heard them be so specific to quiz each aircraft to ensure they had Romeo.

The downdraft that you always get when you pass the ridge on the right on short final can be a handful especially during high wind conditions. Sometimes the updrafts are equally bad. Throttles back and your still accelerating...bumping the flap limitation. I respect that place.

That was ground verifying the departure aircraft had Romeo.

We have all been in this situation. Take the alternate and deal with the BS of diverting when you are safe on the ground. We have been flying into and out of KTEX for the past 15 years and will not land if X-wind is over 15kts . We divert to MTJ atleast 25% of our flights even with owners who are great about delayed home base departures due to bad conditions in the mountains. Xm weather gives you a good weather trend while enroute to the mountains. When weather is questionable we arrange ground transportation for both locations so if have to divert the logistics are already in place.
