Could SWA ever purchase UAIR?

Who else does it make sense for SWA to merge with? Or will they do better trying to compete against multiple LCCs? Word is that LCCs will merge. Will SWA try to go it alone. What about a Frontier/JB merger? What about America West and Air Tran? I think if America West and Air Tran try to merge, Southwest will be forced to acquire one of these two companies out of fear of survival. That's why I want to work there. They're too smart to let ego get in the way of survival. I just hope I'm on the seniority list before this all happens.

I don't assume that "mergers" have to take place. If you provide financing/cash and take interest in the other company, that is enough. Among equals an exchange of shares is good enough. Put some of your people on the Board of Directors, do a code share and, viola, you have a captive partner. Better than a merger because if the partnership falls apart you can get away with less damage

You also get better deals when BK is involved. If they need the cash you get more control.

What about SWA and Alaska??
