I'm going to CR for the last week of July. I'll be staying @ the Marriott Golf & Beach Resort near Jaco Beach (on the pacific).

Should I get a rental car or use the resort shuttle?

Any recomendations on fishing or touristy stuff to do?

Everything is kind of spread out. If you want to check out a vocano or do the zipline you can drive around. Take the shuttle from the airport to the Hotel then if you need a car you can rent one in Jaco. That is a really nice hotel, and dont forget to check out the awsome strip clubs

No worries...a zip line is basically a line connected from tree to tree in the jungle and you strap into a harness and zip back and forth down the valley from treetop to treetop. Pretty fun.

That's a coincidence, I was actually just looking for stuff to do in Costa Rica on other websites. I am also going to be down there the last 5 days in July. Keep the tips coming!

The roads in CR are potholes occasionally interupted with pavement. Take the shuttle.

I surfed Playa Escondida there and it was phenomenal. I hired the same guy who took me out to the break to take me fishing. We got some Mahi and a Rooster fish ( I think that's what they called it...kind of a funny looking little near-shore tuna).

The deep-sea charters kick ass and your chances of getting a billfish are great. The pricetag is outragous, I thought.

I rented a 4-wheel drive in San Jose and drove all the way down to the Panamanian border. Only one flat along the way and Playa Pavones was also phenomenal. Potholes occasionally interrupted by pavement is right!

Not too bad in the LBFM department, either....
