Correct runway alignment SOP

What SOP's are you guys using to comply with 8900.118?

Added a "Runway __ verified" call to the checklist, confirmed by runway markings or signs and AD, ND, or mag compass heading.

Captain lines aircraft up, states current aircraft heading. FO verifies the correct runway heading with the airport diagram, states "runway ___ verified."

On runway, completely disregarding the sings, lights, and runway markings, scale the PFD to the lowest scale and try to verify the correct runway with all of the other superfulous info on the screen with "runway xx verified".

and someone in the future is now going to forget to arm the ignition because they are so busy checking and calling out runway numbers. Then an airplane is going to take a couple birds, dual flame out no relight and it crashes. We will then in the future have a "RW confirmed, ignition on, etc, etc, etc." while lined up waiting to push the power up. The cleared for immediate take off will be a thing of the past.

As of Sept 2010 - no more position and hold -- it is now going to be ICAO standardization of "line up and wait"...

In addition to all the above, check the MCDU or other FMS display that the entered runway matches the actual runway. This ensures proper alignment on RNAV departures that have RNP of 1 mile.

If ATC makes a quick change on the runway then the FMS must be update. It is on our below the line check in the Airbus.

What's 8900.118? Must not apply to 121-supp 'cuz I ain't heard of it (or Fedex is cherry picking what they think they should comply with again).

Looks like it does apply to 121 but it's the first I've heard of it also....

Uhm...8900 is the inspectors handbook. Or POI handbook, which they refer to, to make sure things are interpreted correctly. Lots of little things in there that are interesting.... Found one nugget back in the '90's at Brand X, POI said, Uhmmmm....don't look at that, 2-3 yrs later, it was the hot topic. forget specifics but it had to do with runway analysis calculations etc....

This is a safety-sensitive business; each country doing it differently is a bad idea. We're fortunate that we can speak English everywhere -- we should all be using consistent phraseology for the same reason.

the word dude would then have to be defined in your AOM. i.e. Dude = Pilot flying
