Uhm...8900 is the inspectors handbook. Or POI handbook, which they refer to, to make sure things are interpreted correctly. Lots of little things in there that are interesting.... Found one nugget back in the '90's at Brand X, POI said, Uhmmmm....don't look at that, 2-3 yrs later, it was the hot topic. forget specifics but it had to do with runway analysis calculations etc....

This is a safety-sensitive business; each country doing it differently is a bad idea. We're fortunate that we can speak English everywhere -- we should all be using consistent phraseology for the same reason.
 
I thought that might be how we're complying however, it looks like the rule says RAAS is not an acceptable substitute.

Interesting. I guess that's why our checklist was changed to:

FMC Runway.............................XXX, Verified

At my last US airline, their POI made them add an item in the Before TO checklist.

So, now that you all know how to line up on the correct runway .... are you still allowed to use an unlighted runway at night?

As of Sept 2010 - no more position and hold -- it is now going to be ICAO standardization of "line up and wait"...
