Corporate is a whole different ball of wax. When on the phone with HR about scheduling my interview, the nice lady said pay depends on your qualifications. Hmmm ok. A ballpark would be nice :)

Do you have an ATP? Any type ratings? Any 91/135 experience? How many hours - how many in a similar type to what you'll be flying? Who do you know?

All those play into your "qualifications".

At the very least you could go to Airline Pilot Central and look at the compensation at a fractional like NetJets...but if you're really serious about a job you should take the time and energy to do some serious research - maybe like going to your local library and looking at some industry publications.

Anyway, this might help give you a "ballpark":

Hey Gas Man! I'm in the same boat. Thanks for your post and for all of these great responses. I too have no idea what to expect or ask for when it comes to 1st year pay. At the airlines, it is all posted and you know what you are getting yourself into. Corporate is a whole different ball of wax. When on the phone with HR about scheduling my interview, the nice lady said pay depends on your qualifications. Hmmm ok. A ballpark would be nice :)

They will most probably look at what you are or last made and go from there. You can ask for the world, but your own pay history may haunt you for a while until you get some clout.

Location matters

Thanks for all of the great responses, it really helped.
If did some research on corporate captain pay and it is all over the place.

Mr. Gas Man,

I have worked in the Charter sector my whole career, right up to the point I went fractional/union and got laid off. But my experience is that salaries really are always scattered.

Between a charter job and the my fractional job/mistake I worked at FlightSafety for a couple of years. During that time I found that the clients in my classes had very different salaries. For captains the salary varied from 40,000-140,000 for a medium cabin cessna product. QOL and the quality of the company combined to make the salary.

Additionally, where in the country the job was located made a big difference.

Pro Pilot magazine has the best salary breakdown that I have seen.

Good Luck,

Bill

Plane John nailed it from my expeirence. I had four interviews the first day. One each with the CP, an HR Staffing Specialist, an HR Generalist, and the Senior VP of HR. Then I came back later that week and was interviewed by the CEO.

Good luck! I too flew the airlines and will never go back. In corporate your treated with respect and dignity. There's no BS, no pax screaming at you, no s**ty overnights at the super-8 in Detroit, no last minute A/C and/or gate swaps, and the list goes on and on!
I go to places with my golf clubs and ACTUALLY get to see the places i fly to, and not just for 8-18 hours or just from the terminal.
