Thanks

Thank you so much guys, the info is greatly appreciated and is a good prediction of what I should see and hear when we get over there.

If you are flying in and out of India a lot over a short amount of time, is Universal definately the handler you would suggest?

What about FBOs? Do they work like US FBOs? How is access to the ramp/aircraft controlled if you are a transient?

When you say carry cash do you mean DOLLARS or Rupies or whatever they use?

Thanks so much for the info guys.

There really are not FBOs as such, at least as of 2004 in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderbad and Bangalore. General Aviation has not just really existed there.

You can forget about things like FBOs, weather and flight planning computers, pilot lounges, hangars, GA facilitiesetc. Fuel selling is done by the Indian government, not a private company, so it is very inefficent and takes a long time to get anything done, because you are dealing with the government, not companies who depend on giving customer service.

No FBOs as of the end of 2006. All operations are from remote parking stands and every aspect is done thru a handler. Remote parking is the rule in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and ummm everywhere.

If there are any specific other things you'd like to know, please ask.

we were in new delhi late last year ............remote stand ...very helpful handlers (universal) i did have to drive with them over to the tower and sign flight plans in person....i remember clearing the runway and getting no answer from ground for what felt like 15 minutes......... raxiways were not marked very well and ground controllers spoke very fast after a long day it was very frustrating........ security is very tight..... a/c was gaurded and all crew and pax go thry regular customs immigration in the terminal although the handler gets you to the head of the line all bags searched and sealed............ allow plenty of time for this
