Does anybody know how to get these pictures to appear right on the message rather then to show a link? I put the img code in the right order before and after the message, but it still just shows up as a link.

Click the IMG button and it will prompt you for a link to the image.

The IMG button is located amongst the other buttons that are directly below all the message icons.

I suppose that's what I get for not testing it out first.

As Yosemite Sam would say... "Computers is so stupid"

No wonder I desperately want to get out of the IT industry!   :D

The blue box info says IMG code is OFF.

It's probably set that way to preserve bandwidth.

The first picture, the Air Canada 747 biting the dust, is a fake. If you'll look carefully, you'll see that it's actually the tail of the explosives-test 747 in the second picture spliced onto a real picture of a 747 landing.

This fake was originally billed as an incredibly bad landing when it hit the webboards last year. If that were true, (1) why aren't the landing gear struts compressed, and (2) why aren't the wings flexing?

Very nice bit of editing, though!

Where is that place where those airplanes fly really low to the ground over that beach? I mean, what could be better than lying on a warm beach with 747's flying 20 feet above you? Now that's a paradise!

Isn't that a little dangerous though? I mean those wheels are coming pretty close to that fence. Don't want to make any mistakes there. I though there were rules against flying really low over populated areas. Why would they put a run way so close to a public beach?

St. Maarten in the Caribbean. Not sure of the identifier off the top of my head. Anybody know it? Anyone?... Bueller?...

I believe the beach scene is from somewhere in the Canary Islands. As I recall the runway basically runs from one end of the island to the other, which apparently isn't that long, and makes for a tight approach. I think airliners.net has some additional pics. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. (Like we need prompting on this board.....:-))

It is St Maarten.

I spent four days in the highest building, in the background of the picture. The approach, shown in the second picture, does not usually come so low over the beach, they are usually 50 or so feet higher. The photos were taken near the deck of an outdoor bar on the beach, looking north. The opposite end has high terrain. You take off and turn right, over the water to avoid the mountain.

Yes, I just figured out where that place is. Its called Maho Beach Princess Juliana Airport in St Maarten. I hope I can fly an airplane as big as the ones that fly in and out of there someday. For some reason, I just love these pictures. Here are a little more. I wonder if anybody here has ever flown there.

A quick Google search turned up some neato sites like this and this.

The first picture, with the steel girders going, up is a typical day in St Maarten. The construction is right across the street from my hotel.

You are looking at the Dutch part of the island. The French part, basically the northern portion, has more of the tourist-attracting nude beaches, and some great little inlets to swim in the warm water.

I hope those passengers call us again. It's 9 F this morning in Pennsylvania. I enjoyd breakfast on the veranda as the 747's took off, just down the street. :)

If you read the stories in that site about pilots who landed in that airport, some actually took out the fence with their wheels and dragged it along with them down the runway! Man that Air France 747 is low there! That will be my prime vaction spot one of these days.

Amusing your shot of the Air France plane landing in Juliana airport and what was even more amusing is that before
they made it illegal, the locals used to take their dogs to that strip of beach and wait for the very large planes to take
off from that end of the runaway and when the planes accelerated to take off the draft of air was so strong that they would
throw their dogs in the air at the same sime and the force of the the jet air would catapult the dogs into the ocean!
Great to watch but not so great for the dogs I suppose!
David Henderson.

There is a bar on the south side of the approach called Sunset Beach bar. Some of the pics were taken from there. I've sat there and seen the 747's land. Amazing!!

Monday@1:00=Air France departure. When the 747's spool up before takeoff the whole beach stands up an watches the spectacle. The officials stop traffic along the road (cars have been turned over in the past). The locals on both sides, the stupid tourists right in the middle!!

"looks like a great place to stand Mabel, dumb locals won't stand here for some reason!!!"

80-100MPH wind and 20 seconds later, hats, towels, sunglasses, fat pale tourists and purses fly through the air into the ocean. Convieniently, the local children WILL bring you your stuff from the ocean. For a price!!

Like someone said above, when I was there, the locals would do all kinds of playing in the jetwash.

Yah, gotta love St Martin.
I've spent a few nights at Maho's myself. I was even lucky enough to be there for the full moon. They have a full moon party on the french side that lasts ALL NIGHT. All I can say is "WOW".
A few years ago a DC-8 ( if I remember correctly ) took off towards the beach and took out the fence along the way. I guess they were pretty heavy.
Nice thing about the ramp is that it's just off the runway - great for getting pics of A/C taking off.
Timebuilder - one day you'll be flying something that can climb over the mountains at the end of the runway - but until then I guess the lear will have to do. ( kidding )
Of course, it's better than what I've been flying lately.
Cappy
