I'm looking for some gauges to convert total time into night and instrument time for the purpose of filling out some applicatioins. After 14 years in the airlines I never kept track of anything other than total time. Are there any ratios or formulas that will get me in the ballpark?

Thanks.

Being on the interview board at my current (soon to be former!) company, Any time I see instrument time more than 10% of total I start to get wary, I had one candidate that had 5000 tt and had logged 2000 instrument. The explanation was "flying on the coast". I thought to myself, you must be changing altitude every 10 minutes to stay in the soup! As for night time it's usually 10% or less (unless they are freight dogs).

For the last 18 years I've flown with 4 stop watches around my neck. One for total time, one for night, one for instrument, and of course one as an emergency back up. I've missed untold number of radio calls as I fumble back and forth to get an acurate time but it's worth it. Now with the advent of the PDA I update my logbook every 7.5 minutes. Again, it's a bit distracting but I think we can all agree that every nano second counts. BTW, don't forget the cross country time, I hear airlines like that kinda thing.

Don't know about night time, but Instrument time I understand 5% of Total Turbojet Time and 10% of all other time would be a pretty accurate estimate.
