Well, it's too late to tell anyone NOT to get their panties in twist over preferential interviews. I'll just remind everyone that it's preferential interviews, not preferential hiring. Big difference. You also have to be furloughed and apply. CAL ain't coming to your house to beg you to work for them, niether is SWA.

At last count, less than 10 ATA furloughees have been hired by SWA. More have gone to Trans Meridian. (Don't see anyone complaining about it over there.)

One other point. Many of those that are being furloughed have already been furloughed from another carrier, such as TWA and USAir. They might also be current and qualified on aircraft CAL flies, i.e. B737 and B757.

With 3 days left in an ATA left seat, I want to thank CAL and their MEC, as well as SWA for the interview offers. Kudos should also go to the unrealized pilot and FA integration that would have happened with AWA and their now defunct purchase. As I understand it, it set a precedent.

It ain't over till it's over, and it ain't over.

any info what the interview is like at CAL. sim, written, panel interview.?thanks

There are ten of us starting at TMA next week, it should be interesting!! I took an early furlough to have a class there that way I knew (or hope I knew!) I would still be employed for a bit longer than what ATA was saying. It's sad, but I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Definitely trying to stay optimistic about CAL, but not so sure about the SWA results so far...

Some more information:

1) Off the street hires will be starting in June.

2) Sixty per month is the target set to train, classes starting every Tuesday.

3) There are approx 1500 applications on file that have LOR's.

Thanks Boeingman, did your friend happen to say what is competitive, or what they are looking for?

The above info came from the Chief Pilot's Office. As for the actual numbers they are looking for (beyond the mins. published) they are being tight lipped about it.
The only answer that comes out consistently though is they are weighing LOR's very heavily.

In fact, the company (supposedly) is asking those who recommend pilots if they will be willing to be a "mentor" for the new hire. Someone who can help the pilot with questions and problems during training and when on the line.

I qualify that "supposedly" because there has been nothng written about this, yet it is being told by one of the Chief Pilots (whom I believe are part of the interview process now).

Hi!

Life is not fair, and no one deserves anything.

You get what you get.

If you don't like what you get, you can try.

If you're not trying, don't come whining to me.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) was told by her male boss that she wasn't promotable because she was female. She kept bitching and complaining about that job.

Finally, I told her I didn't want to hear it. Either do something, or suffer in silence. She got smart and moved with me to a much better job. Good for her!

God wants you to try.

You will feel better, and will grow as a person if you try. Even if you fail, you will succeed in a way, just because you tried.

God bless all of you!

Oh God... you went to TMA???!!!

Just kidding man... I interviewed over there for a 727 CA slot last year and ended up turning it down because of RVSM unknowns and the future of the 727 over there. Lots of ex-EOI guys I used to fly with went there too and they seem to not mind it too much, hope you have a good time at it! You're not missing much here at Peanuckle except the start of a LONNNGGG and combative negotating process.

Good luck to all the guys and gals at ATA, TWA, and other furloughees from wherever; I remember how much it sucked to be furloughed and hope you've found something to keep you at least happy, if not well-employed in the interim. For those who would try to "keep a brutha down", just think if YOU would take any extra "IN" you had to get your dream shot... that's what I thought. ;)

Well, TMA actually cancelled the 5/2 class as of 4/29!! Oh well, didn't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about the place anyway, it would have just been an interim job to keep me current in the 757. They may get the class going again in a few weeks, but not really any idea! Not a big deal, but just waiting to hear from CAL & SWA in the meantime. I have a vacation now and time to get the car ready for some shows!!!

Hope you guys are well. Drop a line via the regular e-mail sometime! Cheers.

anyone hear from continental yet? when they do call for interviews how do they notify? email? phone call? letter?

Some do have interviews scheduled, one for next week. At least one not from XJT but basically off the street.

Does anyone know what days they interview, and how many each day? I know that all of us are hoping for a call, and thanks to everyone for providing the information.
