Continental Hiring Plans

[CAL to T-1A]

Talked to the Chief of Hiring yesterday in the training center and here is the latest:

- All those who want to be back are currently in training at Continental
- First class of "new-hires" (Express Jet folks previously promised jobs) started training yesterday
- Should start new class of 12 - 15 each week indefinitely
- Recruiting web site (employment section of Continental.com) should be up in next two weeks
- Off the street hires should start training in June
- If age 60 rule stays, 50% of seniority list will retire in next 10 years
- Continental turned a small profit in March

Is CAL going to require you to know everyone at the company and their mothers like every other major hiring these days?

Time for me to hang out in EWR and start buying McDonalds' for some 777 captains.

They never did before.

Sounds like it will be very similar to when they were hiring before. Laid back interview (trying to get you to spill the beans) with a couple of what if (drunk Capt, Capt no-show, FA says she is sexually harrassed, etc.) questions. Simulator eval will most likely be in the MD-80 since the rest of our sims are booked solid. They will most likely give you about 30 minutes of time to study our call outs and the previous profile was IAH t/o, direct IAH w/ random hold, ILS full stop.

something like 1500 total 1000 turbine 700 pic..didn't have a PIC TURBINE requirement back then. Neither did UPS and now they do...

I live 40 minutes south of MaNewark. I would LOVE to be on the bottom of that list.

I grew up watching old CO red tails fly over my parents' house on the base for the 4s at EWR. Its been a long time dream to work there. Now that Gordon is gone, I do not know where the company is headed but I would take the risk in a second.

Does Continental still have the base in Guam? Last I heard they were flying 757's there, and if you went there 1st year, you got 2nd year pay. Is all this still true??

a little more info...the minimums are different, but I still haven't heard what they are....if anyone knows please respond.

pilottodd2, i talked to a guy that flies 737's and he told me about guam. they do get some perks, more than what mainland pilots get, but i can't remember what those perks were.

As far as Guam goes:

All 738's...best narrowbody flying in the system.

Very expensive. Rent, gas, food you name it.

No place is Typhoon proof..no matter what the landlord will tell you.

Be prepared to lose power at times.

Not a great place for kids educations unless they are put in either religious or private schools. Grande $$$$$$$$'s

If you're a beach bum you'll love the place. Most guys who are single and enjoy that lifestyle you have found heaven. Generally not a good place for the married folks unless the wife is veeeeeerrrrrrryyyy tolerant. There are only 2 types of comments about GUM. People either hate it or they absolutely love the place. There are some people that have gone out there to fly Air. Mic and have never come back to mainline CAL.

The commute is tough. Usually you have to go through Japan from the mainland.

I know we lost the International pay overide. I think there is still a cola for GUM. I still haven't read through the entire contract, especially for GUM issues.

I don't know what the "official mins" are, but I remember the averages for the last round of hiring was 8 - 9000 hours.

I am still hearing that recs. are heavily weighted. If you know any CAL guys start bending their ears.

I was just looking at some houses in GUM online. I found several that were under $200K. It seemed that real estate was relatively inexspensive, compared to Hawaii, for example. I can understand living there would be exspensive. Just curious, high speed connection available on the island (the important things in life)?

And yes, in case you were wondering, I spend my time daydreaming about Continental and living in GUM. You may say "get a life", and that is exactly what I am trying to do....don't have one (a life) in this regional airline hell.
