For those interested, here's the most junior seniority numbers per base and equipment at Continental:

Base Seniority Position

GUM - 4366 - 737 FO

IAH - 4365 - 737 FO (756 was also very junior)

CLE - 4364 - 737 FO

EWR - 4360 - 777 FO (this isn't a typo)

There were over 100 vacancies on the 756 and over 200 vacancies on the 737 in EWR. Over 350 vacancies system wide. This bid was awarded yesterday and the positions will be filled over the next 16 months. The most junior captain will be on the 737 in EWR with a hire date of March 1998.

Why is the 777 in EWR so junior? Are the schedules that bad?
I think its the base. Seniority #4360 is holding the 777 as the most junior person on property today. New hires will fill the couple hundred open 756 and 737 positions behind him, making him not so junior in 16 months.

The pay cuts have made some folks make some interesting decisions. A 757 FO makes up for the pay cut by bidding 777 FO. A 777 FO makes up for it by bidding CA on a more junior plane. The teeter-totter of quality of life vs pay is always in play. When pay gets cut, many will look to get it back, but this may involve a diminished quality of life.

Are the GUM assignments voluntary or purely based on your drop in each class? Just curious. Looking forward to a trip to IAH shortly...

What kind of schedules does the 777 have? And are they based in IAH also?

All international except for EWR-IAH turns. IAH flies to Paris, London, Tokyo. EWR much bigger base than IAH. IAH is very senior. All F/O's in IAH could hold captain.

EWR 777 goes to the big european cities, Tokoyo, Tel Aviv, Hong Kong, and soon to Beijing and New Delli (?) India. So its all the short hops. =)
