Yes, I know that now but I didn't at the time. They don't exactly put it in the brochure.

I'm sure all the Eastern and Continental recruiters were saying, "Become a Scab Pilot and watch your career skyrocket!"

Have you checked the FedEx seniority list? You might be surprised. Where do you think many of those Eastern guys landed?

Their "system bid" award came out today assigning positions for the next 16 months. After everyone takes their seats in the game of musical chairs, there should be about 350 empty chairs for new hires.

This all brings out a point that has not been discussed yet. What is the interviewing process going to be like now? The last mad dogs left the property recently, so is the -80 sim gone too? Anyone care to speculate which sim the checks will be done in?
More and more airlines are using the FedEx situational profile type interviews...do you think that CAL will follow? I am slightly familiar with the older gouge out there (Will Fly for Food, AviationInterviews), but we need some of you ginuea pigs (first to interview this round) to give us an idea of what to expect....

Thanks

Just talked to a interviewee today at the training center. He said that the interview was a three person panel (assit cp's, fleet managers etc). If he gets called back he heads to the sim ( my guess is the -80 sim as it is sitting idle waiting for a buyer), besides the school house is getting pretty busy and I'm sure the 737/757/767/777 sims are busy also.

CAL is interviewing already?

Thank god,

I just got back home after 2 weeks on the road. I'm interested in applying at Continental and had to read through all the scab accusations just to get to legitimate questions. Am I too late or have 20,000 people already applied and been scheduled for interviews. I don't have any shuttle time so .....maybe it's a mute point.

The following are the minimum qualifications to apply for a
pilot position:

1,500 hours fixed-wing total flight time
1,000 hours fixed-wing PIC time, or 500 hours PIC time and
500 hours SIC time in a turbojet
1,000 hours fixed-wing turbine time
1,000 hours fixed-wing multi-engine time (civilian or
military) or 1,000 hours single-engine military fighter jet
time
Successful completion of the ATP written exam
A current first class FAA medical
A Bachelor's degree is highly desired
How will YIP explain this one off?

It says highly desired, not required.

I submit that one who does not read read that "highly desired" as "required-unless you are very well-connected" is rather naive.

You're absolutely right, but I think pilotyip's point has always been that the degree is only a show-stopper at about 2 airlines (DAL and FedEx). It is only desired at other airlines, and in the late 90s there were lots of pilots without degrees being hired at the majors even though they said "highly desired." Do you really think CAL is going to hire a 3000 TT pilot with a degree over a 10000 TT pilot who has 8000 TJPIC but doesn't have a degree? I doubt it.

The real truth at this stage in the hiring game is that you need to know someone. Degree or not, if you know the right people you will get the interview. If you have LORs from 5 CAL pilots I think you'll get the interview even without the degree. It's about who you know more than anything.

Thanks RocketRob

Can anyone suggest a place to get an hour of MD time....with the CAL profile?

not having a degree is a big problem, I went to the job fair in ATL, and talked to CAL and UPS, told them without hestition, upfront, "I had only an AS".I was an employee at CAL for three years, but they suggetsed it was too competitive, that I needed a 4 year degree.
I told UPS i have two recommendations, one a 14 year DC8 CA and the other an FO that was my FO at a previous airline, she said I was lucky to know two pilots there but everyone has a degree, but not everyone knows someone there. She said, as soon as I am close to finishing indicate it somehow , like get my CA friend to submit that info so they see it.

I am curreently enrolled in three classes online with Riddle, 8 more to go...

Hi!

Guam360:

Way to go getting your degree! Instead of bitching about something holding U back, you're doing something about it!

If only everyone would do the same.

I'm with ya, taking 3, 7 to go. In the meantime, I'll just go get my prayer rug, maybe that'll help. :)
