I must say, well done. It's been a long time coming. You really earned this one.

Were there any questions about the engine analyzer on the oral?

Fly safe.

Congrats ASquared!

So was that you I've been dodging the last few days around the ILS & VOR approaches to FAI? ;)

HAL

Thanks, mar, and right back at ya.
tragically, there were no ignition analyzer questions on the oral... but it went well nonetheless. For the rest of you, thanks, and congrats are in order for mar also. He just completed his DC-6 Type rating this afternoon.

yeah, that was probably one or the other of us, depending on whether it was brand E or brand N. You shoulda stopped by Pikes last night and grabbed a seat at the big table full of drunken pilots.

Congrates to both of you. You are part of an elite neat select group. Enjoy the airplane and enjoy a great part of the world.

Pikes

Thanks AA, Turbo.

You know, when I found out HAL was in FAI I offered to buy him a beer but I still haven't heard from him...;)

Well, I guess he knows where to find us.

Congratulations Asquared! How's the view from the left side of the plane? Do captains have to do an IOE type thing when they have up-graded?

How does a High-Mins captain get his job done up there in Alaska, with the weather and all?

Congrats to you both! I still haven't had an FAI overnight yet, in fact I just flew in there for the first time about a week ago. Looks like I'll be buying that beer if I ever do find an FAI overnight on my line...

Hey A-Squared, congratulations!

My Dad got his first left-seat gig in a DC-6. Always loved the airplane.

Err, uhhhh, that was about 1965 though....:D ;) :D

It's different, in many ways

yeah, 15 hours for recip aircraft.

Slowly ... you can swap flights with a captain who has better Wx at his destination, or some days you just don't fly. The way things are going, once I finish IOE, I think I'll get off high mins fairly quickly. The thing is, junior captains seem to get assigned to a line with mostly early morning BET flights, and BET is notorious for early morning fog.

That says something about the airplane when 40 years later pilots are still getting typed in the plane and looking forward to flying it for years to come.

What's MTOW in the 6?

with CB-16 power settings and 100 LL, it's 100,000 lb or 103,800 if you have an autofeather system.

With CB-17 power settings and 108/135 grade fuel or better you could go up to 107,000.

If you're ever up here, you'll have to drop by for a tour of the '6. A recovering hot-rodder like yourself would get a kick out of it.
