Folks, anybody know of any company's that do "Aviation Related Background Checks for Pilots"

Any info appreciated!

;)

If you are looking for a general background check to include criminal history, there are numerous internet sites that offer pretty good background checks for relatively little cost. Simple truth is that aside from government agencies like the FBI and Secret Service, nobody really does a completely thorough background check! Despite all the efforts to improve the sharing of information in various databases around the country in the wake of 911, many agencies data still can not be accessed from a centralized location.

For example, for the most part Federal court records are maintained in various databses and can be accessed via the PACER Service Center which is the "Federal Judiciary's centralized registration, billing, and technical support center for electronic access to U.S. District, Bankruptcy, and Appellate court records." Problem is even after you register for a Pacer account, because the courts are divided up into regions and districts, I do not think that there is yet a single unified repository upon which data from all Federal courts can be accessed. That means to conduct a 10-year background check, the investigator would need to know addresses for the past 10-years in order to use Pacer to access a number of databases for the Federal court databses in the regions/districts where the person resided. Also keep in mind that if you have a common name, such searches can turn up numerous results which require more in depth examination to determine whether or not the records identified in the search are in fact yours.

At the state and local level, the same problems are also present as many municipalities simply can not afford the costs of updating/modifying their database structure in order to use a common query interface. Even when states do have centralized records repositories, such as the Texas Department of Public Safety's state criminal records database, because data from city and county governments are not always reported to the state in a timely fashion, the state database may not be up to date which leads to lapses in accuracy. Again, in many states, although the investigator may be able to access some records data electronically, often times the only way to access less recent (historical) data is to make a trip to the court house for the town or city!

There is a form you can get to send in to the FBI for approximately $18 which will return to you your FBI background check. I had the form (which you must get fingerprinted on), but got it through my Dad who worked in Federal Law Enforcement. You can get it through other sources, however. Just not sure where.

Go to www.jetcareers.com and scroll down to the bottom left side of the page. There are PDF forms for you to receive copies of your FAA records and National Drivers Records for a nominal fee.

Hope this helps!
