So how do all you southwest commuters operate? Do you just get hotels? Are there hotels that give you guys good deals? Do any of you just have crash pads? What are the options around MDW, BWI, MCO? Thanks.

It depends, some people like crash pads, which are available in just about every domicile. Others like hotels, which we get good crew rates on. Crash pads are about 150-250 a month while hotels range from 45-75 a night, depending on which city. I'm a commuter and choose to get a hotel if my trip is not commutable, happens about 50-60% of the time each month. BTW in every lounge there is info on both hotels and crash pads, or you can always ask around. Hope this helped, good luck.

When you enter class in Dallas you'll run across hundreds of us doing recurrent, newhire or captain upgrade. We'll be from all bases and be happy to help you find the information you're looking for.

Is there really new hire training going on? I know they interviewed a while back, but I didn't know there were people in the training pipeline.

Do you guys do all recurrent training in dallas or just the sims? In other words, do you have recurrent ground in your domicile?

In MDW, lots of crash pads, in BWI, probably half and half, in MCO, a couple of crash pads, most in MCO hotel it for now! (as long as hotels are cheap, they started back up because the rumors of the economy getting "better" but they'll figure out that's not the case)! Also in MCO, we use Priceline...or get similar rates direct with hotels.

I'm doing the hotel thing in Chicago sitting CA reserve. Only once have I had to buy an extra night in the hotel because they didn't use me. In October I got displaced to BWI so the company will pay for my hotel room for two nights of my reserve block if they don't use me. They'll pay up to $75 a night.

Depends on the base and your own preference. Check swalife....look under domiciles for crashpads and cheap hotels.

I think he still is. Right now he is acting as liason between SWA and all things ATL.

If your think TD the answer is no. He is enjoying flying the line and said he does not want to spend his last years years in the basement at Hartsfield airport.

That just sucks. The last time I talked to him about it was early summer. He did say that he was having so much fun flying the line that it would be hard to go back to the office. I was hoping for that known quantity though. ugh!

Any SWA guys here live in ATL? What domicile do you commute to and how long have you been with SWA? Pros and cons of different commutes?

There are about 30-40 of us I believe. We are pretty evenly split between mdw, mco, and neo. There is one that goes to hou and a couple to las. I am mdw based and am a 10 yr FO. Pretty easy commute, AWESOME base, and crashpads are abundant. I hope this helps!

I figured that or else you commuted through the MATRIX.... :-) I was thinking MDW would be the easiest commute with ORD as a backup. Never commuted before so i'm sure it will be an experience. Fun times ahead. It there much of a difference between having a crash pad and just using hotels? One good thing about commuting between 2 big cities..Lots of flights!!

All,

I have commuted to MDW for a LONG time.

The crashpads are plentiful. The advantage is it's a 10 - 15 minute walk from the lounge to most crashpads. Though even that seems long in the winter! There's no worry about transportation or hotels filling up. Most of them are pretty clean and include cable/internet. Usually 2-4 to a room with your own bed. I rarely share my room.

The hotels are a pretty good deal as well. I think the Holiday Inn is about $75 out the door (brand new hotel). Right now they are always available, however I did the hotels several years back and they were filling up occasionally.

Overall a great base with good people and great Chief Pilots. Looking forward to putting this behind us and kicking some butt.

My personal feeling is this passes by 70-80%.
