Posted from SWAPA web site:

Thanks to their foresight and their willingness to continue to listen to this Pilot group, Southwest Airlines Senior Management has agreed to the following:

Beginning March 1, 2002 Southwest Airlines will offer unlimited jumpseats to the following Airlines:

America West
Horizon
Frontier
ATA

Again, the unlimited jumpseat applies to only the four airlines mentioned above. All other part 121 carriers listed in our F.O.M. will be allowed jumpseat as per our reciprocal jumpseat agreements. Remember, this does not begin until March 1, 2002 due to the coordination with other Southwest Airlines departments. The Pilots from all other carriers must ride in the cabin.

Thank you for your patience regarding this issue.

???

Chase,

Does this mean those airlines you listed can actually ride in the cockpit jumpseat or just unlimited riders in the cabin?

No....the pilots referenced still have to sit in the cabin. It's just that now if 15 ATA, AWA, Horizon, or Frontier pilots show up for J/S and there are open seats, SWA will take all-comers.

Other carriers will still be limited to 2 J/S riders.

The generosity that SWA displays in this issue is related to the fact that the companies listed also offer unlimited J/S if there are empty seats in the rear.

It's the way it should be done for all carriers...unfortunately as we know it is not.

By the way... Frontier offers ALL 121 carriers who offer us jumpseats UNLIMITED seats on our airplanes. Any open seats in back are fair game.

Just go to the gate with your airline ID, the gate agent checks the list and gives you a boarding pass.

It works out fine, but has halted the 135 guys who used to ride us to/from work.

What about us SWA.....

ACA offers unlimited to all carriers listed in our FOM (look at ALAP's list). Does that mean we can include ourselves in this unlimited fraternity?

At least it's a start.

Same with AirTran, any open seat ia a jumpseat. Wouldn't it be nice if everybody was like that.

SWA pilots had voted on adding an additional 5 airlines to their current list (prior to 911) of unlimited jumpseats. The union is currently working hard to add those names to the list since we have these names back up. We're working hard on it. I can't recall exactly which airlines but I believe they were all in the same size & vein (startup, non major, regional) as the list I posted earlier. We're at least trying, thanks to all airlines to help our guys out!!

jumpseating

Spirit also offers unlimited jumpseating: New service to Denver this Spring. First new hire class May I'm told.
