at the risk of 'superbeechpilot' hunting me down and kicking my ass...
1-I was hired at CA almost two years ago. No one ever asked me in my interview or after what my plans were, when I wanted/hoped to upgrade, where I saw myself in X# of years, etc.
2-I took the job knowing that it would get me time/experience that would get me somewhere better. That has been the case. 2nd year pay where I am at is almost twice what I'd be making at CA.
3-I would guess that 75% or more of the FOs that were at CA when I was there have left for other jobs. A very few have upgraded. If I were still there, I would not be upgrading anytime soon. Those that stay are hoping for the upgrade, the 1000 PIC, the on to SWA or somewhere else. In the time I was there, I saw a precious few go on to SWA or similar places. I'd guess that the average amount of time they spent at CA was 5-7 years.
4-Had I stayed, I am guessing it would be a likewise 5+ years I would have had to spend before going to something better. 2+ years as an FO, upgrade, then 2+ years as CA before being competitive.
5-Having said all that, some folks like it there, live in the NE and have arranged their lives to get by on the low pay.
for what it's worth..........
UP
ps-when I left, Henry (the CP) got all pissed and told me what a mistake I was making, saying "I sure hope you know what you're doing." He said similar things to the RASH of FOs that left when I did. I still wonder what he meant by that, since he never once spoke to me in person or asked what my career goals, life ambitions, etc. were (are).
