at the risk of 'superbeechpilot' hunting me down and kicking my ass...

1-I was hired at CA almost two years ago. No one ever asked me in my interview or after what my plans were, when I wanted/hoped to upgrade, where I saw myself in X# of years, etc.

2-I took the job knowing that it would get me time/experience that would get me somewhere better. That has been the case. 2nd year pay where I am at is almost twice what I'd be making at CA.

3-I would guess that 75% or more of the FOs that were at CA when I was there have left for other jobs. A very few have upgraded. If I were still there, I would not be upgrading anytime soon. Those that stay are hoping for the upgrade, the 1000 PIC, the on to SWA or somewhere else. In the time I was there, I saw a precious few go on to SWA or similar places. I'd guess that the average amount of time they spent at CA was 5-7 years.

4-Had I stayed, I am guessing it would be a likewise 5+ years I would have had to spend before going to something better. 2+ years as an FO, upgrade, then 2+ years as CA before being competitive.

5-Having said all that, some folks like it there, live in the NE and have arranged their lives to get by on the low pay.

for what it's worth..........

UP

ps-when I left, Henry (the CP) got all pissed and told me what a mistake I was making, saying "I sure hope you know what you're doing." He said similar things to the RASH of FOs that left when I did. I still wonder what he meant by that, since he never once spoke to me in person or asked what my career goals, life ambitions, etc. were (are).

Commutair was a fun place to work for a little while. The crews in cleveland were awesome with the exception of a few idiots...well maybe just one but I guess I'd be angry too if the rampers kept putting garbage in my overnight bags :-)

Hey Doo Doo,

Is the idiot your referring too have the initials D.W.??? Just curious.

No, his initials are M.S. and he's a real tool, just about everyone agrees. He's out of CLE.

That's hilarious!!!! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!!!!!

If I still worked at Commutair I'd buy whoever did it a beer.

Get Real

How does Colgan expect to be in CLE and BOS if the can't even operate IAH without screwing it. Continental isn't that stupid. Keep on dreaming.

It's interesting how airlines work......If Colgan is screwing Continental soooo bad, why are the contract offers still coming in. Why are the Colgans getting new airplanes? How come there's more pilots willing to sit the year here to upgrade than go somewhere to sit in the right seat of a jet. If you check out aviationinterviews.com and talk to most of the new pilots, the flying times for prospective pilots are on the rise. I consider myself lucky to have been hired at 1000 hours.

If CommutAir is something your interested in, then by all means go for it. On one bonus note, US Aiways has free pass travel for you and your immediate family. Continental charges $10 a leg.

Good Luck
