Re: Part deux, le droit.

Thanks. I'll stick with my "ideological blather" comment.

T.B., you can post twenty, thirty, a hundred pages on this topic. You're still trying to take one of the Right's core beliefs ("Don't ask questions; just trust us...") and apply it to the left.

You can only see "Don't ask questions; just trust us" as a core belief of the right if you first make an error in assesing the need for national security.

EVERY administration in modern times, even the Clinton administration, understood the need for secrecy in national security activities. As Americans, we have to have a modicum of trust that those we put in office will direct our covert activities to the best interest of the United States. That is not the province of a particular political party.

This need for secrecy on national security issues is a completely different idea about governance from the idea that the democrats have: that we should be a socialist nation, making all people equal by edict, and that only a few self-styled intellectuals are fit for office. This is why they relish their "Bushisms" so much. They are used to labelling and laughing at others whom they deem to be less sophisticated than themselves.

Don't confuse the core belief of the democrats with the need for secrecy in our security. They are not the same idea.

Thanks. I'll stick with my "ideological blather" comment.

Ah. Just the kind of answer I expected. That's unfortunate.

When someone can't argue their point, they instead attack the person. How often have we seen this from the left.

Every day, it seems.

I think Timebuilder has too much time on the ground lately. Go do something like FLY AN AIRPLANE!

Having been a hard-core "Conservative Republican" my entire adult life, I am realizing that there is little difference between the parties and that I have become a Libertarian.

I believe that the people of California DO have the right to recall THEIR Governor--for whatever reason THEY deem appropriate. I believe the citizens of Vermont should be able to marry someone of the same-sex, if that's what they want.

I believe my fellow citizens in Indiana have the right to feel good about our sh***y schools(all of which are "Four Star Schools" whatever the hell that means...) and should attempt to drive all businesses from our state if the people so choose. (Apparently my fellow citizens HAVE chosen that path... ) But I digress...

Why should a Congressman from Indiana dictate farm policy to Hawaiian pineapple growers?TC

Back to my “church” question. Should a church which routinely holds blatant political rallys in the guise of regular worship lose its tax exempt status as a religious organization? Most people say yeas, until they discover that predominantly “white” churches almost never have political figures visit who are current candidates for office where the congregation might be participating as voters, but it has become a common practice in predominantly “black” churches.

Bullfeathers,

I still recall the laughter when Minister at the very large, white, Baptist Church I used to attend said;

"I see all the local candidates are here in Amen Corner this morning!"

And sure enough, they were, front right. Of course, it was only two weeks before elections, and all the candidates were still there an hour later at the pot-luck or in the parking lot, shaking hands and politicin' their butts off.

The rest of the year, they might be seen sneaking in one of the back rows about 15 minutes late, if at all. Credit a good man and great Minister for speaking to the hypocracy you choose to ignore.

But please, feel free to continue telling us, the "unwashed masses", how to think and how to believe. Don't let anyone else's thoughts or opinions shake your devout belief that only the Conservative, Protestant Right has all the answers. I wait in rapt anticipation for Brother Robertson's latest prophesy....

What you did not see was those candidates, all democrats?, taking the podium for a rousing political get-out-the-vote speech in place of a sermon. That's what I was taking about. What you were talking about was some politicians who hoped to appear to be believers to curry favor with the electorate.

What I was talking about is against the law.

What you were talking about is politicians being stupid.

But please, feel free to continue telling us, the "unwashed masses", how to think and how to believe.

Sorry, I can't do that. I swore off being an elitist snob when I left the democrat party. I'm sure if you ask them, they will be happy to tell you what to believe.

My only purpose is to inform people about the basis of our government, the intent of the founders, and why America is what it is. Some folks don't get enough information about these issues, and having been a member of both parties, I have a lot to share. You can believe what you want, in fact, I encourage you to do so.

Just believe what you do based on good information.

Don't let anyone else's thoughts or opinions shake your devout belief that only the Conservative, Protestant Right has all the answers.

Only God has all the answers. I haven't been a "protestant" since I was ten, so I can't speak to anything but what I see of them in the news. I think they are pretty far from God if they think a gay bishop is acceptable for a church that claims to follow Him. The Bible makes that pretty clear.

I wait in rapt anticipation for Brother Robertson's latest prophesy....

Weak, my friend. I NEVER watch Mr Robertson. He has nothing I need. There is only one source of prophecy: the Bible.

That's not what you said about Pat's comments on feminism...

"we hold these truths to be self evident...that ALL men are created equal"...why then, do we have affirmative action??

Merry-go-rounds taken off school playgrounds.

Teachers can't carry paddles and discipline students..which helped keep me straight groing up, as well as my classmates. Geez, if I got paddled at school for throwing dirt,,whatever...you'd get it worse at home! Today it's a lawsuit..afterall, little Johnny is perfect and the teachers are wrong!

Americans have become afraid of each other due to lawsuits. People can sue for 'anything'.

The list goes on and on and on. It is ALWAYS someone elses fault.

What it has boiled down to is..

Common Sense is not !

Timebuilder

Timebuilder,

Your rants......

There's got to be a Learjet flying job out there for you somewhere. Can somebody help this guy get off the board and fly for a living? Hello.......

CC

I can't imagine Timebuilder in an interview otherwise I'd help him out, sorry.

Timebuilder,

your rants...

...Are the result of 23 years as a liberal democrat and almost ten as a republican.

As a broadcaster, I helped promote the democrat agenda of a more socialized set of government policies that were aimed at the redistribution of wealth and attempted to make life more "fair".

Now, and for several years, I realize that the policies I had supported were not consistent with the ideals upon which this country was founded, the constitution, or our basic ideas about freedom.

Commom sense, the title of this thread, is all about America. As we lose the presence of common sense in our daily lives, we are submitting ourselves to tyranny. It's as simple as that.

Outside this thread, sometimes I see something that just begs to be answered. Perhaps in a small way, I can share something that may help someone to understand something about flying, America, God, or the politics and policies that have changed our business forever.

You know. The kinds of things that pilots talk about.

Even Barbeque. :)

Neither of which did much for your sanity. :D

(Come into the middle, T.B. The water's fine...)

Since I don't think my views are in any way "extreme", in the frame of reference of the founder's vision and the constitution, I think the water is just fine right where I am.

But thanks for the idea. It makes me miss swimming in the warm water south of Orient Beach on St. Martin.

mmmmm.

As long as you keep your shorts on...

Yeah, I thought that If I took off my shorts, the other pilot would do the same.

And I sure didn't want that to happen!! :D

All ideology aside -- the common sense vacuum surrounding the building and maintenance of airports is the one that gets me. Politicians and media types from across the board seem to be puzzled as to why delays at airports increase as traffic increases, while infrastructure stays the same or diminishes. There are articles in the newspaper, and diplays of political hand-wringing and local activism all about how there are "more planes" and "more noise" around certain airports (large and small alike), without a single mention of 1) The more the population increases, the more air traffic they'll be, or 2) More residential development that occurs around airports = more complaints for a given amount of traffic. I mean, is it me or should this stuff be considered general knowledge?
One of the best common sense-defying blurbs I ever saw came in an article in the Boston Globe (unashamedly anti-aviation paper, IMHO) about Shuttle America (then a brand-new Dash 8 airline) operating out of Hanscom Field -- the old AFB which now finds itself surrounded by the McMansions of the Clueless, apparently. They quoted a woman who was outside protesting with a group against Shuttle America for re-starting commercial service into Hanscom. According to some of the protesters, the introduction of a 4-flight-a-day schedule out of Hanscom was to set in motion a series of events that would make the Book of Revelations look like a Shel Silverstein poem. Anyway, this woman had moved to the area from Ohio a year or so after the airline had already started service. She was quoted in the paper as saying that "her realtor never told her about the airport nearby..." So she is protesting the airline? If people who can drop $750,000 on a house (and that's just for a double-wide in the area around Hanscom ;) )are displaying that kind of thought process in public, I think that political ideology is the least of our problems.
Oh and one other thing....Next time there's a proposal to build a new supermarket in your town because the old market just isn't big enough any more, go to a local hearing about it and propose the following: instead of building a new market, simply raise the food prices during "peak shopping times" to cut down on checkout lines and parking problems. I mean that's conventional wisdom, right?
