Hey you guys, can anyone give me information on Comair, ie Upgrade time, jr base, Avg starting pay and good or bad company to work for.

With 7000 total and a 737 type, why not try SWA?

Give the guy a break, dumba$$. Maybe he was furloughed and he needs a job right away. I'm sure he knows about SWA and FDX and UPS, etc. But there's alot of pilots out there looking for work, and not everyone can work at Southwest.

I interviewed with SWA, It has become a joke to even think about that Airline. I interviewed in March and had several letter of rec from Sr Captains and F/O's. I even had positive feed back for the interviewers. But didn't get the job. After doing a little research and finding they interviewed 3 groups in March they only hired 16% of us. What is the use in interviewing if the people that interviews you don't make the final decision. The DB Board doesn’t even know you and they throw you away like garbage. I always wanted to work for them but lets face it you never see the real people that make the final decision. I won’t be wasting any more money or time on that Airline.

Well, I didn't mention UPS or FedEx, but I think most people would agree that a guy with 7K and a TR can certainly do better than CMR. If it has to be a regional, why not AWAC? Or perhaps he might try NetJets or something of that sort. All I meant to say was that he seems pretty overqualified for a regional, heck he'd probably be the highest-time FO CMR ever had.

I don't see why my post warranted name-calling, but then that's just me.

Hey guys, all I want is a little info, Don't want to start a war. Fed-Ex and UPS you have to know someone. I don't! So I never tryed them. Comair called me for a interview. I have flying this night freight for almost 10 years and want a change. Maybe it don't seem like the brightest thing to do, but it the only call I have right now.

You may end up in JFK, or possibly CVG. Upgrade time is a total guess at this point, since there is no growth at this time, and the company has said it has plans to hire only 36. Check out airlinepilotcentral.com for the pay rates.
The rates posted there are based on the new agreement, which hasn't gone into effect yet, and will not unless the FAs give up 8.9 million in a new agreement. Since the judge already ruled against it, expect the FAs to give up less, causing the pilot agreement to be voided and new negotiations to follow. This will in turn cause more uncertainty and possible gloom and doom, so anything is possible. On the other hand, it is rumored we are already sold and better days are ahead.

As far as company treatment goes, the difference between a reserve guy and a lineholder is night and day. They consitently run short staffed, and the result of this is abuse of reserves. The trips have taken a hit in quality since the bankruptcy, expect many 3 4 5 hour sits at outstations. Many lineholders only get 12-13 days off.

This used to be a good place to work, and I guess it could be again. Right now almost everyone who can is trying to get out. If you must fly and this is your one shot at a flying job, then go for it. If not, weigh your choices carefully. Good luck.

I understand needing a job, but Comair is still a sinking ship.... I've been here 10 very long years and I sit reserve in the left seat of the 70 seat... I can't remember the last time I was called, and when I do get called, its for a DH or a stupid out and back (not that I'm complaining about getting paid to sit at home and play X-box)..... Everyone I know says the same thing - Unproductive trips... This is a company thats trying to bleed us dry and waste as much money possible...The only reason they are hiring is because everyone's jumping ship, we're not growing...Think wisely...

Hey Hog,
Banruptcy+paycuts+low moral+uncertainty= Probably not a great place to go. I work for Comair and have considered doing night frieght for more stability. Maybe we could swith jobs.
The facts, Pay will be in the mid 20's year one with a bump to the mid 30's in year 2. All bases have FO vacancy's right know so it would depend on class date and age as this determines sen#. Upgrade will be at least 5 years possibly sooner with high attrition rates. Bases CVG JFK GSO Supposed DCA base in August and BOS by years end

Thanks for your help everyone. This is why they call us a great bunch of guys, because we stand by each other. Have a great weekend whenever yours get here.

On the other hand, there is no training contract here so if you need the work, flight time, currency, etc, you can always come here until you find a better job. There are worse places to be right now and it only takes a day or two to come out and interview to see if you might like it here.

Have you tried Continental? They are hiring and have hired several people from the regionals within the past month or so. With 7000TT and a 73 type, you should be a shoe-in. Check out their web-site.

I have filed out the App on Airapps for Continental. Thats how I got the Comair interview, but Continental have not called me. You have to know someone there too.

I don't think there are any CVG 50 seat vacancies either, this could change if a few guys upgrade, but I wouldn't count on getting CVG unless it's in the 700 (which is possible, right now there are approximately 140 CR7 FO's vs. 170 CR7 CA's, so there is a descrepency there).

Comair hired several furloughed legacy pilots in 2002. (Emery, USAir, TWA, UAL... you name it). 7000 was nowhere near the highest time F/O.

Most of them stuck it out for a few years, got frustrated, and moved on.

Good company to be with if you need a place to sit while you're looking for greener pastures. Not much of a career airline though unfortunately.

The current bid has 13 openings for 50 seat CVG FOs. Depending how the bid goes this could translate into some new hire positions in CVG.

My mistake, I thought that there weren't any openings for 50 seat CA or FO, but I posted from memory, which admitidly isn't very good.
