CMRCAPT,
I don't think that our furloughs had never thought that they couldn't get furloughed. That is a risk in this game. But, the way your MEC has treated them is an issue. They do not "deserve" to have a job extended to them, but your help, like ASA's, would have been appreciated and remembered. Your lack of help will remain in memories for a longer time---and that is just reality. And, you can't really describe Delta "hanging on a thread." Delta is the healthiest of the majors, and has well over $3 billion in the bank. That is plenty to service the debt and incur daily losses, and in the mean time things are getting brighter and revenue is starting to increase. And, most likely YOU AND I will eventually help in the debt problem anyways......
Fins,
You are probably correct about Dalpa not leaving ALPA, and I think THEY THINK they have this RJDC thing under control. We shall just have to see. Your knowledge on this matter is impressive, but we both don't really know what will happen or is happening behind closed doors.
Acecrackshot,
I do sympathize with every furlough at every airline, and feel lucky not to have gone through the process. (yet, I guess....?) As far as Dalpa or ALPA "selling out" our current furloughs---I don't think that happened. I think it was lack of foresight by ALPA in the early '90s to not include the RJs in the mainline fleets---and if they could have seen into the future and seen what has happened---they would have. I wouldn't call it a "sellout." Also, a lot of our current furloughs flew RJs at Comair, ASA, etc---and they were once a part of your organizations--and they were only following their dreams---just like you were before you were furloughed. A furlough isn't fun for anyone, including their families.
N2246J,
I did read about that case and have noticed that Comair RJ's have been added to the STBY fleet at the MAT (Marine Air Terminal) at LGA. But, as of this month, STBY lines have been re-added to Shuttle crews bid packets--showing that the customers expect certain airplanes on the Shuttle----and will go to USAir if they don't get it. I know the RJs have been doing BOS-DCA for over a year now, and those loads do necessitate an RJ. But, the proven loads between LGA and BOS/DCA have increased as of late and that has prompted our crew schedulers to add the STBY lines back. Those customers are very picky.
Bye Bye--General Lee
