Any thoughts on how senior CVG will end up when they do the big shift. I am thinking some guys will trade seats or equipment not to go to NY. This could really mix things up at Comair.

That sounds like the Chicoms re-education program. Good luck, although I don't think the Evil Empire has anything good planned for you.

I heard 80 crews is all they will need in CVG

according to the memo-- there will only be 88 crews in CVG come Sept. The rest will be JFK based

I heard something about being down to 900 pilots....when are the next round of furloughs?

No involuntary furloughs until we see the fall schedule. And Maybe not then. Its a wait and see kinda game

Good luck getting all those commuters to JFK. They are going to have to run an employee shuttle every morning. Can Captains opt for the right seat to stay in CVG or are they locked and forced to change planes and bases? I am wondering if it is worth it for some not to commute and take the pay cut.

A captain can't bid back to FO, they can only be displaced into that seat so that will not be an option. There are no different planes to "change" into. This is a reallocation bid for now and only moves 50 seat crews from cvg to jfk.

Needless to say, cvg will be SUPER senior now.

First bid will be a reallocation bid for 50 CA volunteering to JFK (the Co way of getting out of paying moving exp.). Then the displacements... they can bid anywhere their seniority holds, ie JFK CA or FO, or CVG 50 or 70 FO a select few will be able to hold CVG 70CA.

I live in CVG so after 6 years in the left, I am comfortably numb in the right - doing one days (for now). Paycut wasn't such a big deal as my Crack biz is doing great.

You confirmed what I thought. I figured you might see some guys bid whatever it took to stay in CVG. That might stir things up in JFK.

There is no reason for anyone to willingly bid over to JFK. Very few will take that option. Why bid over there when you can be displaced and take advantage of a company paid move.

I would think most will commute. No moving expenses will be incurred. That's why I wondered about who will go. Anyone who wanted to work in NY would already be there. I think almost everyone will be forced to go. That being said I can see people doing whatever it takes to avoid the horrible commute that they will be facing them.

CA pay in JFK, less loss of $ using the commuter clause several times a month, plus crash pad = FO pay in CVG with out a commute.

:uzi:JFK

Maybe it's time to move

Cincinnati, Ohio

Overall rank: 9
Depression rank: 7
Suicide rank: 20
Crime (property and violent) rank: 34
Divorce rate rank: 19
Cloudy days: 186
Unemployment rate (December 2008): 6.4%

From a recent BusinessWeek magazine article about the top 20 Unhappiest Cities in the U.S.
NYC was not on the list nor listed in the article so maybe getting out of the CVG area will make ya happier.
I actually like the Cincy metro area and enjoy staying downtown in the warm months. Great Octoberfest too!!
Hope it all works out for you guys because QOL is most important.

Crack is sooo last year, supply is dependent on the pesky South American suppliers. For a low franchising fee I can move you into the new millinium, crank, crystal meth is the new high profit margin product. Incredibly addictive, versatile, and easy to make in your local previously abandoned crack house. This product will sell its self, all you have to do is employ your F/Os to stand on a steet corner near your local jr high school and the cash will come running to you. I will also outline how to establish a crank call girl/boy operation, this is a real money maker, since you get them hooked and then they hook for you, dope and prostitution thrive in a "down" economy, for an additional fee I will include a Whitelightin' program, this way you can hit every population demographic(infants excepted, we are working on a " mothers little helper program", soon to be released, using Canadian Codeine cough syrup) cradle(soon) to grave.

Wow, that sucks. So guys are getting displaced to JFK?
I'd hope ALPA is trying to get extra money for those guys forced to go up there to offset the cost of living in that dump.

We already have a base there, the company has no need to raise wages. If the lifers don't like it, bye.

Unfortunately, It won't be the lifers being forced up there. (yet)

I'm looking on the brightside as this will get me out of CVG.

MSNBC had a special on today about the huge increase in Heroin do to the economy. Talked about how the purest batches to ever come into the country are coming in and that if one is not use to such potency the potential for overdose is real.

HOW ARE PEOPLE AFFORDING THIS STUFF?

The simplest reason is this:

You are a 15/16/17 year CA at Comair. You commute and hold a line in CVG. After the reallocation and displacement bid you are probably, if not guaranteed, going to be sitting reserve for the foreseeable future (that means a long time). However you could commute to JFK and hold a very good line. You are too senior to be "displaced" so your only option is to voluntarily bid JFK during the reallocation bid. You are commuting any way ... why not?

I am aware of 10-15 CVG CAs who fit this scenario and are seriously considering this.

There are a handful of other scenarios and other CAs who are going voluntarily.

I guessing 25-30 will bid or it and 50 or so will be displaced.

As for the company paid move. You only get reimbursed if you actually move. Who is going to move there making Regional pay?

JECKEL

What if you move to another city that is an easier commute to JFK. Will they pay for that?

Yes, they will pay up to the cost of moving you to CVG-JFK...so if you move someplace closer it won't cost you a dime. If it is farther, you pay the difference.

wmuflyguy,

trust me CVG gets much better the further from Comair you can get!!! I know cause we left during the Comair slide in '06 and are now getting ready to move back. Luckily without the hassles of Comair making us miserable.... I feel your pain though.. I hated CVG when it was all negative Comair crap surrounding us...

I think we may have met back in the day at the Gold's gym in Erlanger? I had a bunch of friends that played basketball there alot.

Comair is not what makes cvg crappy, cincy makes cincy crappy(especially N. Kentucky)
