Avoid Comair and Mesaba - both have questionable futures. Go fly E170s for CHQ...

I guess going and flying the E-170 is the answer to all of his questions, dont bother picking a place that has any organization, good pay, or work rules.

If you go to Comair you will be based in JFK.

Not necessarily. I don't know what the break down is, but they are sending people to both CVG and JFK (maybe even GSO) out of class. Even if you do get JFK, you should be able to bid to where you want to go fairly quickly. The last bid had very junior people going to every base.g

I want some quality of life with either no commuting or an easy commute. Don't care if it seats 12, 50, or 100 pax. I also just want some stablity and good pay.

XJT and Eagle would probably meet the pay and QOL, but the commute may be a little tough. If staying in GSO is really important, I'd choose Comair.

I also just want some stablity and good pay.

Wrong line of work for these two items if they are high on your list - sorry

But we are in this line of work. Let's have at least some choice to how good or bad we have to make it for ourselves. So, who would you choose?

Hey slh3green you are getting youself into the wrong profession if you want quality of life. there is no stablity and good pay for any regional airlines. Trust me Iam a a furloughed Mesaba. It looked good first, possible fast upgrade time everything was looking up. then the bottom drop out of it. good luck with your choice

slh3green,

I came to Mesaba over 6 years ago when it was considered the regional to work for and have been dealing with the negative side of this industry ever since so my thoughts are admittedly jaded.

My point is that working in the airline part of the aviation industry is probably the least stable area to work in and you will not have the quality of life and stability that you may hope to find. Your choice may turn out to suit you just fine or it may bite you in the butt. You won't know until you get hired wherever you can get in and start gaining experience.

Good luck in your future interviews (if you haven't gotten that far yet) and with your decision if/when the time comes. Keep in mind that almost every time a pilot group has had the "choice to how good or bad we have to make it for ourselves" , pilot groups choose wrong. We always end up shooting ourselves in the foot then try to blame it on someone or something else. We are our own worst enemy when it comes to improving our job future in both the economic and quality of life areas.

If you can deal with the job not living up to what you thought it would, with low pay for the amount of work and time you put into it, with lack of respect from management and other pilot groups, then by all means, jump in with both feet.

Good luck
