Any details on Comair slamming some guy leaving for CAL? Someone said a CP was fired and the pilot now has a lawsuit against Comair for running him down. Did he get the job?

I have heard the same. Apparently M.R. had a CP conference somewhere (thus, drinking) and ran into the CAL CP. CAL C.P. "Hey, I heard we got another one of your guys!" COM CP "Oh yeah, which one" "(name withheld)" .....and then the ranting began. Poor guy got a letter saying background check failed. Totally illegal. You can verify the guy worked there...that's it.

I'm exremely skeptical of this. M.R. wouldn't do such a thing. If the guy's references failed, I very highly doubt it had anything to do with M.R.

How would the applicant know who bad-mouthed him in a private discussion? If CAL had already offered employment though, the only way to subsequently rescind the offer would be to have him "fail the background check". Can a CP or someone else sabotoge a prospective new-hire? That would be truly uncouth.

I do know the guy who has the lawsuit on Comair/M.R. He told me personally that the Comair CP did talk bad about him to CAL CP at a CP meeting or whatever. Heres what I was told by the guy who has the lawsuit...

The Comair pilot was hired at CAL and was suppose to start class, M.R. goes to the CP meeting and I guess some drinking went on and started bad mouthing the Comair guy to the CAL CP. My buddy in turn was called by CAL and was told he no longer had the job. The way my buddy found out was that he has an inside source who went to find out why he was offered the job, but later on was called and told he had no job offer. The CAL CP told the Comair guys inside source that he had better talk to M.R. why he did not get the job. Hence the lawsuit on Comair and M.R. for releasing too much info.

It is news to me that M.R. got canned, when did this come out or where did you get the info at? I dont really care for the guy...He says one thing to your face and yet does another. I guess that is what management types do though. I am glad he is gone, at least for my buddy's sake. I hope he wins the lawsuit againt him and Comair. I guess he already has, he told me that is all he was sueing Comair for was M.R.'s job.

Apparently so....In this case Comair CP M.R. hates the guy who was leaving to go to CAL. So bad it cost him the job at CAL. And his job as CP of Comair. Glad to see what goes around comes around.

I was his FO on his first trip when he came back after the CAL rejection. Not a happy camper when it came to the company but I had a great time on the trip, great guy if I may say. UBA757

Did the CP get sh1tcanned altogether, or just lose his CP status? What a b1tch. If I ever leave my current job, I wouldn't tell a soul. Let them figure it out when they get the PRIA request. You never know who's got it out for you. Unless the CP's are having one gigantic meeting or something equally unfortunate.

As of today 2/15/2006 M.R. is still in the CP office. And I have know the Capt. for 7+years. I would take all this with a grain of salt.

He was in the Office today.

I heard some interesting things about the CA in question too from other pilots

M.R. = Hat Police!

I guess the recent vacancy was to fill J.M.'s position? Heard in his new position he's going to go Nazi on the sick calls :(

Correct, and there is a posting in the HR part of EPIC for J.G. position

I don't care what he does, as long as he fixes the scheduling department. They are worried about all the sick calls lately, what do they expect, I get a call from scheduling in the morning to be notified of a trip and the first thing the girls say is I'm sorry cuz it has a five hour break at some little shthle airport... Maybe if they actually made some good lines and tried just a little bit to fix our reserve system, we wouldn't have all the sick calls. All I see here is the usual comair fix....Try to put out the fires, instead of stopping them from ever getting started!!!!!

TRUE STATEMENT…..

I know the captain in question; the captain did not fail any type of test or check, which I am aware of.
He is one of the better captains the company has, but he does have some downfalls and this is why most people don’t seem to care for him.
  • Occasionally calls in sick
  • Doesn’t always seem delighted to be at work
  • Not proud of having to use air stairs to get on and off the plane
  • His reputation is less than desirable with the FA’s
  • Doesn’t always wear his hat
  • He doesn’t have one of those spiffy leather jackets that everyone talks about
Now he might not be a model RJ CAPTAIN…. But then again, who wants to fly with a uptight hero for 4 days

People should keep their comments to themselves

HEAVYrj,

I couldn't agree with you more. I personally like the guy, I think if he doesn't like you then he will let you know by being an a.s.s. to you. He has pissed off some FA's though. Overall stand up guy and I will stand for him anyday. He is better than most of the CA's I have flown with at Comair. He actually has a life outside flying, which I think is important. Most of the jerks I fly with are way to caught up with Comair, and don't even know what is going on outside the company.

Well I interned for the Chief's all summer. If M.R. were to talk bad about you, then you really are a douche bag. Everyone's got their own viewpoint and opinion, but that office is full of great people.

I seriously doubt that the CP in question would willingly undermine the opportunity to get rid of an indiviudual he didn't care for.

Airlines do extensive backround investigations on all applicants to cross check the information they received at the interview. Some go on for up to six months. I don't know anything about this incident but it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the Continental CP approached MR and asked him point blank about something that didn't jibe with this guy's story or to confirm a statement he made about his time at Comair during the interview. The decision may have already been made by Continental prior to the CPs talking to each other and the CAL CP was just reporting.

You can bet that Continental's company policy prohibits discussing why an applicant didn't get the job but MR may be able to offer some insight.

Ok you just described 70-80% of us, except for the FAs. There has got to be more to it than that.
