I was looking on the Union page. Colgan FA's want Union representation.
Well there you have it. It's settled.


Whats the average life span at Colgan?
 
XJT lost 69 planes, and they are pumping kool-aid through a firehose, but they have still lost flying. That is not the best sign to have.

We did? How could losing flying make us short staffed? Have you not seen the 69 airplanes painted like toothpaste or in new Delta colors? Have you not heard that we opened 3 new bases (not cities where airplanes sleep) in 2 months? Wow. Do a little research.

Quit bringing up valid points when he's trying to spread ATL lawyers' misinformation. You should know better.

Listen guys, This union thing is the only way to go if we want to be competitive in the future. The problem from here on out is going to be putting people in the seats. Not the passenger seats, the flight deck seats. It wont' be long and a 500hr wonderpilot will be able to pick and choose his regional airline (heck, it's almost there now!)

How on earth is Colgan going to recruit pilots when they could go to any other job, maybe even one with SHINEY JETS... ooohh aah..

We need a union. Period.

If you could choose between a company with decent work rules better treatment and pay where you gonna go. Plus look at the long run. What happens when the music stops. Do you want to be a 3 year fo making 35 to 40 an hour with a matching 401k better medical or at colgan making 26 with nothing.

I had an interview date with Colgan. Really wanted to go there. You can ask JP, I had been bugging him for months to get me an interview there. Finally got the call, but they couldn't interview me for just over a month.
In that time, I got the call from the airline I'm at now. I went in, interviewed and was offered the job all within a weeks time. Still wanted to interview with Colgan. I actually wanted to fly the Saab, and I know A LOT of guys there.
Your HR department had sent my airline ticket to Chicago, not Phoenix where I was living. Still not sure why they sent it to Chicago, never even gave them my address, but somehow they got it. Maybe from when I applied as a dispatcher 2 years prior.
I saw this as a sign not to go. Plus, why would I go to an airline that pays signifigantly less, with a training contract?
Moral of the story. Training contract HAS to go. HR department HAS to get their head out of their azzes, because they're the first "feel" of what the airline is like to the applicant.

On a side note: Many guys in my class interviewed at Colgan and were giving class dates. Obviously none had accepted them. But they all had to say, that the Colgans who did the interview, treated them like crap. Some saying they flat out didn't like them, and some said that Colgan got up and walked out of the interview, never to return. Getting that word out there on the street, won't get guys to come interview.

I doubt a Union can change anything in the offices. From talking to a friend who works there, said you guys grew too fast, and didn't increase your HR department.

I had a phone interview with Colgan Jr. He said that the girl in HR would get back to me the following day. I waited 3 weeks.

Then the debacle with sending my ticket to Chicago, when I was 1,600 miles West of there at the time.

Oh, not to mention the email I recieved saying that I was welcomed to interview for a class that started in July of 2006. When I received the email it was October of 2006.

It's just the little things like that, that make an applicant say "WTF are the doing over there?! Is there really who I want to work for?"

I understand that the Colgans want to keep it a family airline, thats fine. But then keep it to 10 airplanes and 30 destinations. I know they like to personally interview everyone to see if they would fit well with "their family", but seems like they hack more applicants than they accept.

What you say is true. We need some serious growth in those areas. The people who handle crew movement for example. Its like 2 people, and they don't work on weekends. It can be enormously irritating.

I am hoping we can help make this a premo turboprop outfit in the future. A union and a contract are a big part of that.

Its got to be hard to get guys to come there, while everyone else is now 600/1. Of course the guys today are going to be driven towards the jets, while they make more money.

They have to do away with that training contract. More pay and better schedules wont come over night, so you have to get creative on hiring. If the Colgans continue to pull what they do during interviews, no one will come there.
I'm not saying drop the mins to commercial multi and a pulse. But something creative, or worthwhile has to be offered pilots, to attract them to go there over the Comair, PCL and Mesa. You know its bad when people are picking Mesa over you, only because Mesa has jets.

Maybe free lap dances for the first year at the local nudey bar?
 
alpa won't make colgan more attractive quick enough. The hiring shortage isn't coming, it is already here.

You may be right, but we should still get ALPA to represent us. Wouldn't it be nifty if management was itching to give a pay raise and make it more attractive so they could grow the airline. Our contract negotiations last a month and we end up with an awesome contract.
