I heard that Colgan got the FAA to authorize transcon stand-ups in the Beech. Refuel in Ft. Wayne, Omaha, Denver and Palm Springs. Blocked at 29 hours, 37 hours on duty.

I heard that construction of the new wing of Buffet Colgan had to be stopped for a short time when one of the family members mistakenly thought that rolls of insulation was cotton candy...

I don't want to know about anything big going down......

.....of course some folks like the big units.

The rumor mill says they will be sold to Skywest or Mesa after a prolonged bidding war over the soon to be completed buffet.

Maybe they're getting the 69 jets from XJT.

BOOOOOYYYYAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heard the A-Models will get USAIR paint...and the B's to be used in the united flying since they have better loads...so i could see the A-s in JST, BUF, ALB...nothing else new except maybe the hiring slowing

Any colgan guys had a chance to read the new crew member employee handbook. All pretty basic stuff till you get to the part about being drafted. Its actually in our handbook that you can be drafted to fly on your day off, and if you refuse to do it, they will treat it like a missed trip/no show. You can be terminated for it. Its all there in black and white. I couldn't believe it. They can arbitrarily take any day off away and make you work, and if you say no they can sh** can you for it. But its ok though, they'll pay you an extra 3.75 hours of pay for being drafted! I can't believe our employee handbook actually has the word drafted in it. Awesome.

Pinnacle has been drafting for years. It sucks!! Now they finally got the right to refuse once a month.

NEVER answer your phone! but if you get told ahead of time i guess you have to do it. but i mean, it has never happened to me so i think they only would do this in a real pinch.

on another note with the hiring slowing down the upgrades will slow down to and there will soon be no point in being at colgan. i would much rather sit in the right seat of something with an apu somewhere else with better 2nd year pay.

Yep, it says if they contact you, you've gotta take it. If you don't want to fly, don't answer of course.

I read that today! what a bunch of BS. I was asking the lead cpt at our base and he said the same thing.... tell them u are drinking beer and would love to come in.. or, don't answer the phone! Drafted, i haven't felt like that since i left the Army after "Stop-LOSS"

Ok, its all in the word "contact" you. Leaving a message is not contacting, and you know what if I wanted to be on call 24/7 I would have been a E1 in the Army or gone to med school. 15 past, phone goes off.

This drafted bit is old news...has been around the company for a couple of years. I really do not think they ever used it. (I stand corrected below...I guess it is used more than I know)

When it first came out it was brought up in the conference call...we asked who would have the responsibility to get you to the showing...like if you were "Home" and you commute. They replied that they would positive space you and such.

You guys know how it is...Colgan has a pretty good way of wheeling and dealing trips.....I happen to Love it when scheduling calls for a favor. Always make it sound like a real inconvienience and you know you will get a day or 2 off later in the month...

Most FOs at Colgan have the mistaken assumption that you can put goodwill in the crewscheduling bank and withdraw it at a later date. Not true. If you want something for a favor, get it at the time you agree to the favor. 20 minutes after you agree to pick up a pairing and want something, the shift has changed and nobody knows sh!t. Conversations usually go like this:

CS: We were wondering if you could pick up some open time on the 14th.
Me: Sure, if you get rid of my reserve day on the 23rd.
CS: I don't know if I can do that.
Me: Then no, I can't work on the 14th.
CS: Hold on
(silence)
CS: Mikey said you can have the 23rd off.

Ding Ding! Perfect response and good training for the newer guys, coming on board!

Remember 15 past, no phone
Don't recognize the # don't answer, sometimes they use their personal cell phones: this could be good if you remember the number; call them at 2 am and ask if they are working!!!
hahha
Now to c how much "colganoscopy" will occur today!

Have to agree...getting a "return favor" from scheduling is almost like getting a check from a poor FO...run to the bank and cash it cause it won't have the funds later.......

I have generally gotten time off if I really need it. When I am over gaurantee I usually do my best to take extra trips...under gaurantee I usually do the wheel and deal...cause I hate to work for free!

I understand all about not answering the phone. Is anybody really dumb enough to answer the phone on a day off. Thats not really what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the bush league tactic of calling you when you're on duty, or when you call to check out, which is also a company policy. I don't know if a lot of these tactics are used primarily on the beech, but everyone I talk to has been drafted atleast once. I have been twice in a year and a half, both times they drafted me when I was on duty, flying. They called and left a vague message and when I checked out they told me I had to work the next day, my day off. I complied once and flat refused them the second time. Nothing ever came of it, but that was before it was there in the employee handbook. I have a problem with them forcing you to call at the end of the day and being able to draft you then. If they only tried to get you on your day off, thats an easy solution. And they know nobody will answer the phone. Thats why they make you check out and thats why they draft you while you're working. I can't believe anyone would think thats ok. I have had no problems with the barter system, but them being able to arbitrarily take any day off they want, and fire me if I don't work it seems totally ridiculous. I don't want to be a Colgan basher. The place is what it is. But this policy just really bugs me. I agree that it doesn't happen much. Buts it happened to me twice, so it's not accurate to say it never happens. No one cares about the policy until they're checking out, and they just bought two tickets to see Pearl Jam at the tweeter center, and Lisa calls to tell you you're going to Altoona tomorrow! But who cares, it hasn't happened to you right.

I guess I should have said I never heard of it happening. News to me...maybe it is more of a 1900 thing where the crews are a lot thinner.

It is easy not to check out. Half the time I try to check out I get the ding and it goes to a message...so it is easy on your last day to not check out. Just say you tried byt you only got Leroy saying "Hi....."

It is a harsh rule I guess. It is supposed to be the jumior man first at the base right? That does not make it any better but I guess they have to try to have something in place to keep the trips going.

I know alot of people would say hire more crews and have more reserve lines...then we would just be in another thread complaining about being on reserve for 3 months after IOE....right?

If it really bothers you bring it up in a conference call and see what answer you get from the CP or Dot...

It is a lot like other jobs....Fireman, Policeman, Nurses, and others get mandatory overtime all the time...and some of them actually have laws that allow for it. I think if it becomes a regular occurance the pilots should ask for the policy to be reviewed.

Hope you don't get it again....or me either.

Don't sweat it. If you have a good excuse for not being able to fly ("My wife is 10cm dialated!"), then your set. Otherwise, kill the plane. We ALL know how easy it is to kill the plane:

CA: "FO, are you busy?"
FO: "I am not, sir."
CA: "I would like to do a walkaround with you to enhance my knowledge.
FO: "I have my book right here.
CA: "Boy, the horizontal stabilizer erosion tape looks like crap. I can't fly like that. I better put that in the book.
FO: "That's what I'd do were I captain."

Please tell me the patron saint of the crummy commuter aircraft that struggles to fly. I'll light one candle for each leg before each departure. How Catholic does that make me? I don't know, I just feel guilty and like a drink...

How true and funny! Just put the torque at 25% split durring your takeoff roll and trigger an autocorsen event, you will be at the bar in no time! hahahahah joking of course!!!!

That's what you would think... Heck, that's what I thought too.. You'll just end up with a special ferry permit and a trip to HYA.

It was real confusing starting off at my new job. I'd be trying to get a trip trade or a day off, and all i could get on the phone to make a deal was crew scheduling or the chief pilot. For weeks i kept trying to find out who was really calling the shots. Never did find out.
