Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey

Colgan's are Democrats Since when do democrats not want Unions??????????

That's a fine question. One that can and should be asked of the longest serving member of the Virginia State Senate. Bet he didn't get re-elected over 40 years without help.[/quote]

If anyone is bored and wants to do some research, google AFL-CIO and Teamsters campaign contributions. They both donated $$ to the Colgan re-election campaign over the years. Ironic how the old man will gladly accept the donations to get re-elected, but is totally against having those unions come onto his property to represent his own employees. What will happen when ALPA and USW or AFA come on board? Will the unions stop the contributions or will it be politics/business as usual in supporting the Democrats?

Another Ironic thought of theory...What if a portion of that magical 1.95% of your salary going to ALPA dues was used for Daddy Chuck Colgan's re-election campaign? I wonder if Mike ever considered that when he wrote his letters against ALPA, that the family can make money off the union? Just a thought...Besides, the money would not come from dues, it would come from the AFL-CIO's PAC Money (of which ALPA is a part of) I read the by-laws right.

Sounds more logical that Mike's 401K sob story, doesn't it?

Nice contradiction in terms.

When and where are they going to find the time to eat their new crew meal?

Are we going to delay the flight so we all can eat?

They're gonna eat it in front of the passengers.....

Yes, delay the flight.

We had the same questions a couple years ago where I work about the same situation. We had started 8 leg days with no breaks. The company started giving crew meals to avoid flight delays. They also changed the FA eating policy from no eating to "don't chew with your mouth open in front of passengers."

I always give my FA's the option of getting off the plane and eating at a table or eating in the plane in front of the passengers. I've also delayed flights in order to get my crew a decent meal, and haven't heard a peep from anyone.

We can't be slaves to the company. If you're a captain, treat the crew right and offer them time to eat...they'll probably not speak up if they're hungry. If you're an FO or FA, speak up when you need a break and if your captain decides to be an A-hole, just walk off the airplane and come back when you're properly fed.

I'd love to see what the FAA has to say if any company starts offering discipline to crewmembers for delaying flights for food (union or no union)......

it will be like a hunger strike, except the complete opposite

I am of the opinion that when I sign that release concerning our "fit-to fly" status, it has EVERYTHING to do with that IM SAFE acronym. And I stick to it.
If my FO says he or she's hungry, then, that's it. We go inside and sit down and eat something decent. Company be damned. At the same time, I know that if we leave 20 mins late, we can still make up the time, and we're feeling better and more refreshed and SAFER, instead of doing 15 minute turns all 6 or 7 legs of a hot-damned-day.

There was an IAH cpt that delayed a flight to get something to eat.It was just a few days later Mr. TB from CJC world headquarters called and threatened him with his job.

The only Q400 outfit in the US is Horizon. They have pretty good rates. Colgan came in with bottom of the barrel pay. Why?

Big insult.

Here is me question??

Colgan says it has above average employees. Then why pay us below average wages?

Because you have no union.

Lets do the math. Why can't the FA's bring their own food like the pilots do?

Why should anyone have to?

When and where are they going to find the time to eat their new crew meal?

Any damn time I please.......thank you

Are we going to delay the flight so we all can eat?

Damn skippy....

The USW, the same Union that the PCL FA's have is going around talking to the Colgan FA's.
This is a preemptive strike by Colgan Management. If the USW was not talking to Colgan FA's NONE of this would have be going on. Open your eyes people.

I'd like to add.........don't pick up what they're shovelin'

I will definately report to the FAA any time the company gets on me for taking time to eat. I will ALSO report any time they harass me for calling in sick. I have heard lots of stories and if it ever happens to me, I am reporting it. Period.
