Do we want representation, do we need representation?

In IAH Colgan will now buy lunch and deliver it to the airplane for flight attendants if they fly over 7 legs and don't have a long enough sit. Sounds great, they sure do deserve such a gesture!

Aren't the pilots probably just as hungry as the FAs during a long day? When the Asst. Chief was asked about the pilots getting such a deal the response was, "No, pilots can eat their own food up front during the flight." That sure is interesting, since the FOPP states that pilots are not permitted to have food or drink up front except for bottled water. So they expect you to eat up front, which goes against their own policy. If you get something in the radios, who do you think they will go after? You violated company policy remember?

The company has all their bases covered, do you? The issue here is not the free lunch but the disregard by management of the issue and solution of violating their own policy.

BTW wasn't there a crew who had their controls get temporary stuck on approach? While they were able to free them maint' said junk on the control cables (coke, coffee and such) caused them to stick.

Sooooo glad I left........ ALPA will make it better, I can promise you that. It has made my QOL and paycheck much better since I left 9L. I'm doing the same job and making the same or more than 9L Cpt's as a 2nd yr FO. Matter of fact I'm working less and making more $$$$. How about that!

Pinnacle

Further evidence that we are not "Colgan" anymore...Pinnacle Business Code of Conduct for all employees to sign. I guess we really aren't Colgan anymore.

We need to understand this and understand that we are now owned by a publicly traded company whose bottom line is dollars and cents...not treating pilots fairly.

VOTE YES FOR ALPA!!!

so now they get food and a uniform allowance....

Why are the FA's working more than 7 legs without a break? Maybe lunch isn't the problem....

Birdcatcher,
Pull out your FOPP. Let's go to page 3-40. Section 3.19.0 B. Food
  1. Crew members are cautioned against eating foods that are considered unstable if not well refrigerated such as mayonnaise, custard, pastries, sandwich salads such as ham or egg, potato salad and deviled eggs prior to or DURING flight. Lunches carried and consumed on duty must be stable.
Then we have page 3-59. Section 3.31.0 "Prohibited Items On the Flight Deck" paragraph A. Drinks on the Flight Deck. It tells us that drinks are prohibited on the flight deck with the exception of bottled water. Paragraph B prohibits tobacco. It says nothing of food being prohibited.

Where does it say we are not allowed to have food in the cockpit???

So which company policy are they asking us to break???

I've seen many a pilot bring a Subway Sub into the cockpit just before a flight on a quick turn. The F/A's are not aloud to eat in front of the passengers. The only place to eat for them is in the stinky lav, and who has an appetite after being in there.

I agree with suupah. Quit yer whining.

Why aren't we provided crew meals? The flight attendants are with these gestures, why not the pilots?

Lets do the math. Why can't the FA's bring their own food like the pilots do?

When and where are they going to find the time to eat their new crew meal?

Are we going to delay the flight so we all can eat?

The USW, the same Union that the PCL FA's have is going around talking to the Colgan FA's.
This is a preemptive strike by Colgan Management. If the USW was not talking to Colgan FA's NONE of this would have be going on. Open your eyes people.

Okay, then where are they going to eat their new CREW MEAL? Not on the lav.

Not in front of the Pax.

So they will eat the 3 hour old spoiled meal on the ride to the hotel.

Because management does not want the FA's to vote in a Union.

Exactly,

Management was quite surprised when Colgan Pilots filed with the NMB for a vote. QUITE surprised.

Also the stuff that they are producing on the www.colgancares.com website is coming from the same law firm/lawyers that represents Frank Lorenzo.

Quoting the FOPP is fun. Here is a little gem:

3.27.0 F NOTE
Rest is defined as a continuous period of time that is free from all restraint including freedom from work and freedom from responsibility for work should the occasion arise. A telephonic or other message to a Crew Member from the company or the airman to the company is not considered an interruption of a required rest period.

If anyone can explain that logic, I'm listening.

Not voting for representation in the airline business is a RECIPE FOR DISASTER. You become subjected to management's whims - who wants that?

Yet another reason why Colgan and Mesa are at the bottom of the regional barrel.

Plenty of Colgan pilots with stupid excuses about why they don't want to have Union represention. Like.

I don't want hub basing.

I won't be hear long.

Because I read and believe the letters management hands out.

My captain said so.

FA's

Oh...this may also have to do with the Flight Attendants trying to unionize right now with the AFA or the USW that represents Pinnacle flight attendants. Just more union busting 101.
