Bigsky got the bid and will be flying SPI to MDW starting in Dec. It's on their website.
Good work, bluesurf, but you're off just a little bit. A quick glance at www.bigskyair.com will show a headline of "Announcing New Service from Springfield, IL to Chicago's Convenient Midway Airport." Unfortunately, the article previously quoted by Birdcatcher states that the new service will connect Quincy, Marion, and Decatur to Chicago. None of those are Springfield, which is where Big Sky plans on flying from.

Unfortunately, you might still be right, since it would behove them to increase their presence in Chicago if they're going to be there anyhow. Either way, it looks like growth on the 1900 side of things, even if Colgan gets some flying out there. That's going to be completely worthless for the dozens of folks that went to Colgan from Chicago Express.

Hope you all the best.

I'm still trying to figure out why would do this out of MDW. There is no one to feed. A passenger making a connection would have to retrieve their bag, go back to a ticket counter with a seperate ticket, check their bag again, and go through security again. I guess a 1900 offers the an economical way to fly passengers to MDW that don't want to connect, but that would limit their market. Maybe Colgan out of ORD and someone out of MDW are two seperate animals. For Colgan to be in ORD for ramp training it must mean something.

The whole idea of flying a SAAB to ORD for ground training does not make sense. Since when has Colgan EVER done this for any operation? it is clear that IAD people hardly even know what an airplane is..... Something is going on they are just not saying. And even if this whole thing is just a rumor their are plenty of facts surrounding the possibility of it being reality.

We don't like cowboys here at Colgan, but.......if you are going to shoot from the hip...You better make sure that those guns are loaded...

I laugh every time someone brings that up. Wasn't it said during an oral or something? You have to say it just like him or it loses the effect.

2 days ago jeb told us he didn't want to start any rumors, but it felt pretty good flying a saab to chicago for united to look at it. There's 9 of us in class right now. Originally they told us 4 in the beech and 5 in saab. Now it's 3 and 6. Chuck told us they are hiring 20 more FOs. Monday 18 new FAs are coming in.

United to look at it? I was told it was for training for ground crews. I am sick of these BS rumors from either management or us. I wish they would just balls up and tell us what the heck is going on.

patience grasshopper...... lol. THey will tell us when the person on reserve that day has to start the new flying........

I was told by someone in HEF that it was for training ramp personal. I also was told Colgan did the same thing to IAH before it was announced. I am also hearing from people at American Eagle that they are considering bringing Saabs to ORD next year for AA. If that were the case and not just a rumor United would probably want to do the same thing to reduce costs on the same routes that compete with AA.

patience grasshopper......

I love that!

As an old airline proverb has said or situations like this one: "You who wish to fly in different waters must first learn to swim in a pool of sh*t; only then can you fly in waters which trickle through another province."

Flights to Chicago Coming Soon?

Williamson County--

By: Shawn Smetana

When it comes to traveling back home to Chicago, students at SIU can take advantage of several different options. They can ride the train, take a bus, or hitch a ride with a friend. Those methods of transportation carry one common theme, they are time consuming. SIU freshman Elizabeth McConnell jump aboard the Amtrak last month, "I took a train back to Chicago for the first time and it took about eight hours."

If all goes as planned, Williamson county airport manager Doug Kimmel says students will be able to fly the friendly skies from southern Illinois to Midway airport in Chicago. "When you talk about SIU, faculty, staff, students they are waiting for this."

The deal is awaiting approval from the Illinois department of transportation. Kimmel says the state funding is a big selling point to the carrier service. $3.3 million in state dollars will subsidize the first two years of service. "They don't want to be here for a couple of years to collect state checks and break even, because they see an opportunity to make revenue," Kimmel said.

Much of that revenue could be generated from SIU students. The only question is what is more valuable time or money? The expected ticket price flying round trip to the Windy city is $250.00, but travel time is only two hours each way. Some students say they will spend the extra dollars to get home faster. "I have a lot to do, go shopping, run errands, things need to get done and the extra hours are helpful," SIU Feshman Dionna Phipps said.

Airports in Quincy and Decatur will also have service to Chicago. Kimmel says there will 16 flights per week from Williamson County airport to the Windy City. Kimmel says the first flight could take off January 7th, 2007

Ok, now we know an RJ will not take 2 hours. It must be a turboprop! Chances for Colgan look a bit more realistic now.

Does anyone know if they let BE FOs transition to the saab after most of their yearly stint is up?

Kaman those are pretty stong words considering who I am and the company you are in. I tell ya what I will give a childish response as did you and an intelligent semi poetic one. Here is goes. I hope grave robbers dig up your grandmother and make a video entitled eye sockets are not just for eyes. Also may the seed of my loin be fruitful in the belly of your woman.

Dude, that was deep! I was thinking the colgan proverb:

The things that comes to those that wait may be the things left by those who got there first.
