Colgan Interview Times

What resource does someone go to in order to find a "good" regional airline to fly for. Any suggestions for the poster of this topic on what regional airline they may want to fly for?

I would go to (almost) anybody that is getting aircraft at a rate where you could almost guarantee quick movement to the left seat. That being said the pay/work rules are vastly different among regionals. I would think Air Wisconsin, Skywest, ExpressJet would be good places to go in reference to QOL. I think if hiring resumes, you may be better off going to a smaller company. I would think that would again, be the shorter route to the left seat. Unfortunately, this changes on a somewhat regular basis.

As a general rule, if you want quick upgrade you go to airlines with small seniority lists that are getting new airplanes. You can still upgrade quickly at airlines with a lot of pilots but that only happens once every few years then the music stops and get stuck again for a couple of years. Small senioirty lists allow for quicker upgrade during up and down markets. The only problem is that if they furlough, chances are they furlough even guys with more than a year senioirty. Its all up to the individual pilot, but if you want quicker upgrade vs getting paid better and having a better life just go to places like Colgan and other lower tier regionals. If you want stablity and a jet go to eagle or skywest.

Everyone has to remember that upgrade times and growth WILL NOT matter if the company you work for continuously does things to put your license (and livelyhood) on the line. Colgan does some shady things that shouldn't be done. The bigger regionals don't offer quick upgrades right now, but you're going to have an easier time holding on to what you've worked so long to earn. Spending every day at work fighting with the company over issues that should be common sense is no way to go through life, quick upgrade or not.

The only reason Colgan is hiring is because Pinnacle management bought them and gave them larger aircraft on "the backs of the Pinnacle pilots" and now Colgan is seeing the growth, and Pinnacle Pilots are being displaced so Colgan guys can upgrade.

I used to fly for Pinnacle and I can see you are pissed because they bought Colgan, but that is not the Colgan pilots fault. I suggest you guys do a 5 year contract next round....instead of 10. Pinnacle bought Colgan because they had contracts and existing pilots/aircraft that were making a profit.
Get over it.

I have read through this and other web sites that Colgan Air is a lousy company to fly for. For 757's information, please give this individual reasons WHY it's a bad place to work as a pilot. If someone here is a current or fomer pilot for Colgan, or knows someone who is a current or past pilot for colgan, you can say something here or send 757 a provate message. Like I mentioned before, they can apply for a pilot position. If they are contacted, it doesn't hurt to attend an interview, and see for themselves if Colgan is worth flying for.

A lot of common complaints is that they put your personal integrity and licenses at risk. A place not worth going unless its your only option etc.. I don't know if you have ever been to an airline interview but generally it's a pep rally, fast upgrades, more flying new planes, good qol etc.. so you cant really gauge properly whether the place is right or not, you have to talk to actual pilots. Generally there is nothing that's too good to be true at a regional, if one aspect of the airline is good, your gonna pay for it another way. Good luck.

Saying that Colgan makes you do things that put your tickets at risk???? Give me a break...that also means Pinnacle does the same thing since they own Colgan.

All regionals follow the same FAR's and if you or an airline break those rules....then you both would be out of business quick. The Colgan crash and the resulting FAA investigations would have found that out pretty quick. I'm guessing your informants 1st airline job was at Colgan.....and he or She is bitter. If you are dumb enough to break FAR's or you are dumb enough to pass up a job at any regional airline when you need a job (especially when that particular airline is going to double in size at a time when nobody else is hiring) , then you dont need to be in this business.

All regional airlines pay the same...give or take....all follow the same rules.....all of them have good & bad pilots, good & bad managers and all of them suck until you make captain with seniority. Making captain as quickly as possible is the most important piece of the puzzle if you want to call flying for an airline a career...or if you want to be marketable to any other airline.

I noticed a lot of these Colgan bashers are not even ATP rated......get a few more hours of integrety under your belt and a 121 flying job before you make judgement on which crappy regional airline is the best crappy regional airline.

I suggest you go back to school an major in something non-aviation related. Its not too late...

This is the perfect example of someone who has no clue about the real airline world.

Sounds like you are clueless. There is a reason why Colgan has fast upgrades, because no one wants to be there. If that's your thing, then by all means go for it.

The reason Colgan is having fast upgrades is because they are doubling the aircraft fleet and they need to hire 5 crews per aircraft over the next 2 years.

Fast upgrades are only happening because they need pilots to fill more aircraft arriving on the property.

If I were out of work and wanted to go back to flying for regionals ....I would go to Colgan (or any airline that was actually growing its fleet) in a heartbeat

I noticed that you have almost as many posts on this site as you have flight hours.....maybe you should spend less time posting on this site and get your ATP so you can get one of those better regional airline jobs.

Just a word to the wise...The upgrades aren't occurring here all that quick. It is STILL at least a THREE YEAR upgrade at Colgan Air...And, unless there is some kind of major change in the industry. This situation isn't going to change anytime soon...Good luck with the "quick upgrade"

Its got to be a quicker upgrade than sitting at home and doing nothing....and certainly quicker than other regionals right now considering the fact that no other regional is growing. Yea...3 years can seem like forever.....on the other hand those projections can change to less time or more time depending on the aircraft delivery rate...ect....

All I'm trying to say is dont stick your nose up to any job oportunity and try to go to an airline that is growing.......Math 101

Apply to Colgan and see what happens! Can someone please tell 757 the best way to apply for a pilot position with Colgan. This will allow him to to meet people at Colgan and get a feel of the place for himself.
