Colgan cutting block time?

I heard from a station manager a couple of weeks ago that Colgan is cutting flight time throughout the system. He said that they are losing money and are also having maintenance prolbems as in they can't keep up with it.

Rumor or truth?

Block times are closely watched by the FAA. They are based on historical data and can be updated on a quarterly basis. The company can't simply reduce the times in a money saving attempt.

Unless things have changed you get paid block or better, so how would this save the company money in the long term?

Cutting blocks wouldnt save money. We still get guarantee or better. I think a few of the united bases had some of the flying reduced, but it was not lost. Colgan is running classes thru the end of oct as far as i know. THey have to put these new FO's somewhere, so I doubt we are losing money.

I did hear that we lost some more mechanics. If i was king for a day, I'd call up all of the old ones and offer to almost double their pay. THese contract mx guys and kids coming out of Spartan just don't know the ins and out of the saab as far as i can tell.

COlgan losing money?? I have no ideas what the numbers look like, but the colgans haven't lost yet. They pulled a few suprises in the last cpl of yrs and I see them adding more flying soon. Showing a profit on paper means that they have to pay taxes on it. I'd hide it away also, lol. Who knows, I did drink some PJ with grape cool aid in it last night, so maybe i'll be on the street looking for work tomorrow. Time will tell

There are alot of good saab guys out here but most of them know that colgan dont pay! fight over giving up raises and last but not least act like a bunch of tight a@@s when it comes to getting parts for the ole birds. I have worked on saabs since they were new and know if you dont take care of them they will break your bank!! One thing i will say thank god the sweeds built in alot of tolerance for lack of care!!

i agree. I never seen colgan coming up off of the money for the crews or mechanics. It's like a revolving door -- bring in new ppl, pay low, they leave, and the learning curve starts all over again

What I meant is is colgan losing flying? I haerd that we are losing flying with United and Usair out east.

we havent lost any united flying at all. The blocks t some bases were cut down, but the blocks were way too off anyhow. THey were blocking some lines that was a 20 min flight at over an hour block. THe flying is still there, but the blocks are being reduced a bit. Rumor has it that we may pick up some united flying in the fall, but its rumor at best. Doing the colgan!

Certainly not losing flying at IAH. Average pay credit for August bid lines (outside of stand-up lines) is up (of course it's summer) and they added an additional line for August (37 lines vs 36). Also, we've been short FO's this month and have had a couple TDY'd to IAH. The asst chief has been flying as an FO all month.

Dont believe anything a gate agent says. They dont know the difference between a CRJ/ERJ, or a 737/ERJ-170. And of course they "think we're having mx problems" because they are the ones that get really pissed off when we delay boarding due to mx, so it may appear we're having "problems" but its really just biz as usual. Block times for UAL didn't change at my base, however they did shift some flying on weekdays to other bases. Infact they increased the block time from 1:20 to 1:30 for the east bound trip for only a flight planned 0:40. I wouldn't worry.
