Everybody is deathly afraid of a furlough, so we're pissing away all the gains we got over decades of negotiations, strikes, etc. all to either have a chance to expand or keep our jobs. .................

For most, (remember that most if not all of the airlines are top heavy with close to a majority going out in 5-10yrs) the issue is retirement $$$ not a furlough.

Bankruptcy makes a 1.5 million dollar lump sum go away. $2500 a month is all you get from the PBGC. ALPA lets the individual carriers make their own choices and so far its about saving as much of the retirement as possible. A pension freeze outside of bankruptcy that nets you $500-700K is better than what the PBGC gives you and to the senior guys a 10-20% rate cut is worth it. The rest are along for the ride.
