Hello to all FedEx pilots, I have a question. This new bid does not include 727 captain slots. There *should* be some available on a clean-up bid but that was not in Jack Lewis' FCIF. Will there be any 727 captain seats available because of this bid? For scheduling reasons I do not want to upgrage to a widebody captain.

Thanks,

HNF

Secondary vacancy slots due to the movement to the w/b's. Also, company stated that they are reducing the 727 fleet by getting rid of the 100's, so the number of secondary slots available is in question.

???

You've been at FedEx long enough to upgrade to wide body Captain and you don't know how secondary vacancies are filled? Is this a real question?

There are no PRIMARY vacancies for 727 captains, only secondaries. With the planned reduction in the Boeing fleet I doubt all vacancies will be refilled. After everything shakes out there might be another clean up bid near the end of the year.

I haven't. If I bid 727 F/O, will it come out on the MOAB bid award or will I have to wait for a clean up bid?

A variety of secondaries will be filled. The number will be determined by the company. For instance, if 75 727 FOs upgrade to captain and 75 upgrade to widebody FOs, there would be a vacancy of 150. However, the company may elect to fill 100/120/140/etc of those instead of 150 based on a shrinking fleet.

Honestly--with that many jet seats--if you are on the property and want a right seat you should get it. My advice is bid what you want to fly.

I've got a bose X headset--so that should clue you in where I'll be....

Albie's right. Bid what you want to fly, keeping in mind that we change which a/c go to which cities all the time. The Bus or the Boeing (or whatever) might be flying to your hometown NOW, but maybe not in the future. So factor this in when you decide. Also, I went to the MD-11 because it had international and domestic... lots of daytime.... who knows about some of the SIBA cities, or what a/c the asian base will be.... But I knew no matter what happened, I'd have the mix that I personally wanted.

Wise old Yoda.... in motion, the future always is....

If you look at the last big bid, about half of the new widebody captains came from widebody right seats. 727 left seat is starting to fossilize into those who want to retire off it.

I.e, I would predict no more than 100-150 new 72 captains on this one. Airbus capt will set a new record for time on property.

D@mn, and I thought maybe I could break the slavejet left seat record at less than three years...;)
Seriously, I believe this bid is on par with the postal contract bid of several years back...LOTSA movement. Bid what you want; you just might get it...
P.S. I didn't see any vacancies posted for the A380 (better change my standing bid:laugh: )

Out of the Boeing

I bid out of the 727 on the last bid due to rotten lines, I am finishing up with MD-11 training right now, I bid the left seat on the MOAB, I should hold one of the MD-11 Captain slots.

How many pilots in the pool?

I got the call for a 5/2 interview.

How many pilots are currently in the FedEx pool?

Hag

Pireps from the crew vans is about 200. No idea on accuracy of that, however...

Hagar,

What was the approximate time from your M & G to the call for the interview?

Did they offer mulitple dates or did they assign you a date for the interview?

Any info helps!

heard today the company is scrambling to get MD-11 sims..training to be conducted overseas such as Helsinki and some other places...i did my initial in Zurich in 96 at Swissairs facilities...poolies..pack your bags!

No offense to anyone, but I'll believe that when it happens.

For the guys lucky enough to train in Europe--however--WOW! Beer, brots, and perdiem--that won't be a bad month or two at all!

Good luck--hope it happens fast.

hey albie...memtrash speaks highly of you....i did mine in 96 in zurich for the bus and crews on the 11 were sent to helsinki at that time as well..it was a good deal..perdiem checks were huge...i have heard they are going to do it again..but you are correct..believe it when it happens

I did a month in March in Helsinki. Like Fairbanks only without the social scene....

The chief of MD-11 ground training told my class that Frankfurt is a done deal for sims this summer.

Flex instructors shouldn't get too excited about off site training. The new TAed section 11 reduces your pay for off site from 6 hrs to RLG value. That is only one of the concessions given by our union.
