Hey Falcon20driver:

Looking at your profile, is that a -5 cargo 20 that IFL was looking to crew end of last year and, if so, would that be the only 731 cargo falcon in operation ? Just curious.

Yes, it is an IFL cargo 731 Falcon, not sure if it's the only one out there but it's the only one that I know of. The EFIS, FMS, APU and Dee Howard thrust reversers sure make a nice cargo Falcon, it goes like hell with those Garretts on there too, a beauty airplane.

Their 2nd -5 http://www.worldjetinc.com/falco1.jpg
is getting the cargo door conversion done right now and should be online in a couple of months, and the 3rd one soon after that.

Yea, but at USA Jet you get more days off and they are 100% guaranteed. Upgrade at USA Jet is 12 months or right seat of the DC-9 at 12 months your choice, of course depending upon seniority, what is it at Ameristar? Third yr. DA-20 Capt. guarantee is around $55K per year. As far a RVSM goes I only know what an Ameristar pilot told me last fall. And besides my dad can beat up your dad, only kidding, actually he checked out already.

Not sure why you're picking a fight. I suggested Ameristar because they are in the same business and they are hiring right now. To answer your question, you can be hired as a Falcon/Lear captain or DC-9 FO off the street if you meet the mins posted at http://www.ameristarjet.com/employment.htm.

If you are hired as an FO it typically takes 12-18 months to get enough jet experience to upgrade...although last year someone did it in 7 months.

I don't know who gets more days off but Ameristar days are hard days also.

Ameristar does not pay by the hour like USAJet but a first year captain can easily make $55k, many first year captains had W-2s over $60k.

Both companies have their pros and cons. USAJet is great if you like being home in YIP, want quick FO time in a DC-9, and want a higher guarenteed base with possibly a couple more days off. Ameristar is great if you want to build time quick, live somewhere like Addison or El Paso instead in YIP, and fly for one of the biggest on-demand operators (almost twice as many aircraft as USAJet). Depends on what you are looking for.

Also, Ameristar pilot's haven't attempted to organize a union like USAJet pilots attempted to do. So things can't be so bad there.

Prox, you are taking this too seriously I was trapped in the house all day Sunday in a snow storm and had nothing better to do with so many yellow flags at Daytona.

Hi!

The company website is:
www.activeaero.com

Go there and U can C what the co. is like.

It isn't 9:5, but it is 10 days off out of 28. The lines vary, ranging from a single block of 10 days off, to groups of 3 or even 4 sets of days off. If you move up to the -9, you get 12 days off every 28.

The word on hiring

Do not pay any attention to the above activeaero link. The activeaerocom site does not have the on-line link for applying. Go to jsfirm.com and post a resume, it will be reviewed and you will be sent an on-line link to fill out the application. We are interviewing for a pool and will propably have about three more classes this year.

Info re: USA Jet Airlines

For any who are interested,

I'm in my 5th year at USA Jets, and by far, it's the best flying job I've ever had!

Is it a perfect place to work? No, but I've never seen a perfect place to work, ever. In my view, USA Jet is like a typical, healthy family. Not always fair, not always pleasant, and from time to time we fight each other over all kinds of things. But!!! It's still my family, I'm glad I'm a part of it, and wouldn't want to work anywhere else.

I've worked at "other" Cargo jobs, and those memories are all I have to think about to remind me of how fortunate I am to be working at USA Jets. I turn the big 50 this July, and I plan to fly at USA Jets for as long as I can keep passing the medicals.

In the 5 years I've been here, I've never been "strong armed" to do anything illegal, unethical, or unwise. I've never flown any of their aircraft that I didn't have complete confidence in their maintenance or airworthiness. While I have had some "long days" due to legitimate delays, etc., I've never been refused or coerced in to continuing duty when I told them that I or my co-pilot were fatigued and were calling it a day.

As far as the people are concerned, we have our share of jerks, prima donnas, whiners, etc., but honestly, I've never worked any job that didn't have their share of those types. Have you? I can say that by and large, the pilots are some of the nicest most professional, and conscientious I've ever flown with. The management, while under the gun to be profitable for sure and have made their fair share of mistakes, are among the most dedicated, honest, and fair people I've ever worked for. I'm convinced that it is their desire to build a quality business, with a quality workforce, in a quality work environment. I don't always agree with their timing, methods, or direction, but I have to remind myself that if I knew all the answers, I'd own my own airline!!! (I know some of you geniuses would do well to remind yourself of the samething!!!)

As to the compensation package at USA Jets, they don't pretend to or even try to "compete" with the premier "major" operations such as UPS, FedEX, DHL, etc. The management has aways been congratulatory to those of our pilots who have been fortunate enough to be hired by these outfits, and have wished then well by throwing them a celebratory "going away" party at the local "watering hole". However, it is Usa Jets goal to not lose pilots to our "peer outfits." They accept that from time to time, there will be those who'll choose to move "laterally" for various reasons, but they would never accept a "mass exodus" to our competitors. Therefore, USA Jet's compensation packages are at the very least, competitive for our industry, and in some ways, superior.

Personally, I made over $88K last year. That salary plus benefits is probably worth approximately $125K!!! Not bad for an on-demand charter outfit!

Oh! By the way, the training is par excellence! USA Jets training dept. has put together an outstanding training program for both types of our aircraft. They don't "filtch" when it comes to the quality of training, and they invest a substancial amount of money in training each and every candidate. In the 5 years I've been here, USA Jet hasn't lost a single airframe or crew to an accident!!!

Now I've heard the rumors and even felt the "cold shoulder" from pilots who work for our "competitors". I'm sure that some of them distrust us and hold us in contempt. Frankly, I can't help but feel that it's nothing more than professional jealousy. For whatever reason, they aren't working at USA Jets, wish they were, and their "misery" inflames their egos to look at us with "tinted" lenses and project their disatisfaction as our "arrogance". I can't help that they were unwilling to take whatever steps, make whatever sacrifices to come to work for USA Jets. I can't help that they locked themselves into unreasonable "training contracts" with other outfits and are stuck where they are. I can't help the fact that USA Jets insists on our pilot's wearing uniforms, looking sharp and professional, and their outfit could care less. I applaud the fact that USA Jets takes better care of its' pilots on the road than our competitors do for their pilots. I refuse to apologize for the fact that my employer cares more about me than theirs' seem to care about them!!! All I can say to them is this, "If you're not ready to move onto the "Majors", then as soon as you can, do whatever it takes to get yourself interviewed and hired here at USA Jets. I promise you won't regret it!"

I asked Pilotyip about some of his typical Falcon runs, but can you give me an example too? It really seems interesting and I don't know much about the adhoc auto parts business. You sound like you really enjoy it. Early mornings and late nights?

Bye Bye--General Lee

I used to work at USAJet General. A very typical falcon run is something like this... depart YIP go to somewhere in Ontario, wait for a few hours for freight and customs etc. clear inbound at say, LIT. Head to ELP clear outbound for Chihuahua, unload, head back to ELP, customs again then off to the hotel. You'd stay on the border having fun for anywhere from 10 hours to 3 days. If you were lucky though the Canada part would get deleted and the pick-up would be somewhere in the midwest, and you only had to clear customs twice. I've had one trip to Portland, one to Seattle, one to Vegas and a few to California both LAX and SJO in 2 and a half years but generally the trips are from canada/midwest to texas border/mexico. There were also quite a few pick-up in midwest deliver to Ontario trips then back to YIP. Personally I'd rather go to Mexico and day than do trips like this seeing as the Canada trips still took all damm night and you only got 2-3 hours flight time. As far as day/night, its about 50/50. Unless of course all the flight followers are conspiring against you and you're stuck on the night shift for two months straight! :)
