Denmark dudes try to land Cessna Citation on 2900 foot strip and end up in the water

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/16/plane.crash.ap/

airport info

http://www.airnav.com/airport/KAIY

longest runway is 2948 feet long

must have been VFR....only IFR approaches are Category A, and Circle to Land out of the approaches are Category A only also.

Category A max speed is 91 knots by the way

wonder what V-ref in a Citation is?

depends on the model but some are as low as 90-100kts

Guys like this don't look or care about the numbers. I've flown with a few unfortunately in the past (although not quite this bad). Guys like this seem to think they are invincible regardless of what is published.

There has never been a CJ accident that has been attributed to mechanical failure (although there was one incident with a runway trim).

Every single time an owner/operator overruns in a CJ (there have been MANY) they've claimed brake failure. And, each time the NTSB finds it pilot error, not mechanical failure.

The brakes in the CJ2 are a little funky if you're new to the plane, especially the early serial numbers without the brake mod. But, if you're new to the airplane, you don't land on short runways. DUH!

Ahhhhh...the joys of flying a "simple" airplane.

Listed as 103. Most 500 series seem to be between 100-110 (c25a=cj2)

Cessna also lists the landing distance as 2820...hmmmmm....

he11 they had 128 feet of extra pavement to play with....this was clearly a safe thing to attempt!

(not knocking FlyingBuck ---> but sarcastically commenting on the landing distance data and the overrun incident)

One article I saw called it a Charlie Cessna Citation C-25A. haha
