I was raised to take it off....
"Why can't I leave the band on father?"
"Uhh..don't do that......it's tacky"

So I usually stick to that tradition....
But then again.....I won't lie....sometimes I'll put my tacky hat on cause I'm smoking a Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona and I'm d*mn proud of it :)

Mostly off...depends on the Cigar. For Opus Xs, OFF for sure. Band's too elaborate and too d*mn big. For others (i.e. While playing Golf) I usually leave them on just for sh*ts and grins. Will take off bands of my "better" smokes.

I envy you, gave the last of mine away at a recent wedding. I am going to try and get down to TJ next time in SAN to regroup. It does not get much better than golf+ a Monte+ vodka or gin... If I were there the scotch would be on me and we could do a swap- lol

I've got a couple of Cuban Monte 2s(? - Can't remember if they're 2s or 4s) I'd be willing to trade for someone to walk a resume in for me! :D :)

One of my students gives me some of his cigars from his private humidor. Padron anniversary issues, he has a couple of cases of them. I tend to leave the band on since it is a double layer band, the first saying what kind of cigar it is, and the second being a serial number so you know it isn't a fake. People almost always ask about them, but unfortunatly I don't know enough about cigars to really give them anything worthwhile. All I know about them is they are a wonderful smoke, they only made the things in 1994, and they are expensive as hell (my student has done pretty well for himself.):) :) :)

I think Clinton smokes cigars...

OFF

The only cigar dorks that leave them on are the ones who want to be noticed...or feel special because they have a Cuban. Get over yourself....it 'aint that hard to come up with one....and you get the same stuff from the Dominican Rep. and Haiti.

These are the goobers who I regularly spank and take money from on the links.

Definately on, it's like lingerie....

Poseurs

Dubya and I agree?

Put a bullet through my head, will you please?

Leaving the band on is like pulling your belt under the label on your jeans so people can read the brand name.

If you're hangin' out with some serious cigar aficionados and *if* ya got any moxie at all there will be no doubt you're smoking some good tabacco. You shouldn't have to advertise it.

But I never touch the stuff, the tabacky makes my heart beat wacky.

Maybe I need to make sure I peel the label off my beer before I drink it. I'm off to the closet to make sure my little Levi's labels aren't on the back of my jeans. The grinder might take care of the raised "goodyear" on my tires. And that hood ornament.... $hit, I'm going to be a busy guy trying to make sure I'm a generic consumer. I keep forgetting I'm not supposed to tell chicks (or anyone else for that matter) what I do for a living. Can't wear my uniform into the supermarket on my way home without being labeled a dork. Hmmm... Who gives a hoot what anyone thinks about whether there's a label on my cigar, my beer, my pants, or whatever? If you leave it on, fine, if it embarrasses you, then take the thing off. But for chrissakes, make sure you enjoy the smoke. I think that's the important part.

Is it Hugh's turn to be a little testy?

C'mon man. There are easy things to do (remove bands) and difficult things to do (grind off Goodyear).

Of course it's important what people think.

Why did you choose your avatar? You wanted to project a certain image.

Mine says: Old, greasy, loud and unreliable.

What are you trying to say?

I didn't mean to convey testyness (sp?). A bit of sarcasm maybe, and sure, some absurdity. (We do lose a lot in the medium here). Sure we care about appearances, but I think sometimes people take it a little far. Sometimes I forget to get all the labels off my cheapo clothes. Good thing I don't sweat it. I dig Mar's avatar. Mine's a sign of respect to a man who earned many lifetime's worth. Main thing: Enjoy the stogie however you see fit.

How about this for an analogy to the cigar band…..on or off.

In the game of golf, let’s say you hit one into the rough and are having a little difficulty locating it. One of your buddies finds it and hollers over to you, “I found it”. You reply back, “is it‘Wilson’ #3”? Your buddy replies, “Nope, it’s a Titleist #4” You now have not swiped somebody else’s ball. That’s one reason numbers are embossed into the skin of the golf ball by every maker of them.

Same for a cigar. If there are a group of stogie smoker’s and a few common ashtrays laying about, It would be easy for someone to pick up your $5.00 or $10.00 smoke and get away with it, while you’re left with his 60 cent Wm Penn Perfecto. But, leave the band on, and the chances of stogie pilfering are reduced quite a bit.
