Chautauqua is a lake in western NY state by Jamestown.

Its also a county in NY state.

Its also an indian clan/family that was apart of the great Iroquois tribe that inhabited most of what is now upstate NY, Northern PA and NE OHIO. The Iroquois were made up of the Chautauqua, Onondaga, Mohawk, Erie, Messena, and Armonk clans. The CHQ and Armonk being the most agressive and fighing of the tribes. However the CHQ became part of the Iroquois after the Mohawk and Erie along with the Dutch kicked the crapola out of them in a land dispute just south of what is now BUF. The survivors of this battle had the choise of being burned alive or running a gammut where Erie and Mohawk indian women and children would from 2 lines with rocks spears and clubs. the CHQ had to run the gammut and if they survived they got to become apart of the tribe. This ritual later became the Erie sport called Lacross.


And thats all I remember from 5 th grade history class about the Indians, growing up in rural PA every year we had to study the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** indians.

Also the Armonk indians who orginally inhabited the lower Hudson river valley were the first known indians to scalp their war dead. The first recorded scalpings were Dutch farmers who tried to expand their "Apple Orchard" off a Dutch island which is now called Manhatten. They area they tried to expand into is know today as whiteplains.

what are some other factors on deciding where to take a job? I hear from some friends at Mesa, that they fly a lot. Now i don't know about some of you...that might not be what you want. But I for one..would like to fly my butt off to build the time so i can move on. What kind of hours can you see at other regionals? Mesa pay sucks...but so does my pay now.

It's obvious to those of us who are employed with CHQ or most people who are from upstate NY.

My question is what is the legend of Lake Chautauqua? Also, do we have sister lakes called Republic and Shuttle? Maybe those are some of the undiscovered underground finger lakes up there in NY. If that's the case, can people who swim in Lake Republic swim in Lake Chautauqua and vice versa? Where does this leave Lake Shuttle?

If you don't tell me the story, I'm gonna keep making this stupid sh!t up!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Learlove, nice pull on the history stuff! I thought I forgot about all that stuff. That brought back haunting elementary school memories from many, many years ago.

Like it or not, MESA is the BUTT of the industry.

Everyone knows JO is the biggest jerk in the biz and he has ZERO respect for MESA pilots. If he had his way, cheap robots built in Malaysia would be flying the airplanes. Ask yourself, "do you want to fly for the airline with the worst reputation in the business among other pilots?" What is the reaction among other pilots when a MESA pilot identifies himself? It ain't a smile...

Now there is a proposed 737-300 operation that will further lower the compensation bar in the industry. First it was Freedom and it goes lower and lower... Do you want to be associated with that? No disrespect to the many good MESA pilots out there, but you have to admit that the situation at MESA could be a lot better relative to other regionals. It is the antithesis of Southwest Airlines where pilots are at least respected and treated reasonably well...

I'd go to CHQ in a heartbeat - especially given its new EMB-170 order for United.

I've noticed three mesa bashing posts on three seperate threads in the past few hours by "on your six" I'm guessing he takes this stuff way to personal or has some big axe to grind.


I personally don't see anything about being the "Butt" of the industry anywhere else besides this chat board. (where folks can post all manner of crap under an alias)

Sure we get a little crap from our mainline partners here in PHX. This is not a slam on the whole AWA pilot group, pretty much just an ill-informed, immature minority.

I understand, from friends at other regionals, that this pretty much the norm for most regional-major relationships. United to ACA, skywest, air wisconsin.. Delta to comair, ASA.. American to eagle and so on.

You've got a lot of time ahead of you and a lot of guys in line in front of you thinking the same thing.

And a lot of guys have come to the understanding that it's a long line of very qualified individuals and that they might as well try to make the best of the wait and enjoy life before it's gone and they realized that the line wasn't leading anywhere.

"bag tied in the middle" - referring to the hour-glass shape of Lake Chautauqua.

"where the fish was taken out " Indians caught a huge sized muskie and it leaped out of their boat back into the lake.

"the place of easy death" from another Indian legend- about an Indian maiden, who after eating a root which caused a terrible thirst, bent down to drink from the waters of the lake and disappeared into its depths - never to be seen again.

Some profess that Chautauqua is of Spanish origins and some say it came from the French. Perhaps we shall never really know its origins.

funny that you should say CHQ is big-city bases with Buffalo, Greensboro and Richmond (RIC is too small of a base to be BIG on any count even if the city is largeish).

Also, Columbus and Louisville and in a lot of peoples minds Indianapolis are medium sized cities.

So, yeah, Big Cities for LGA, STL, PHL, and MCO

it's all preference, you're absolutely right on that. Personally, I just wish people here would start doing their own research and making their own decisions and stop asking people who work for different companies to pick between two. It's childish and silly. If you're a big enough boy to fly a plane, you should be mature enough to make your own decisions without asking people to compare two. Ask for information on airlines, but why ask people to compare?

True, GSO, RIC, etc. are small cities but they'll be closed soon if the company stays true to it's normal base opening/closing schedule (one or two each year just for fun)

However, Garden City, Kansas?? Where is that? At least in GSO or RIC there is a tower and a few people there. Isn't Garden City a grass strip??

not spooled up, I just thought it was funny. (and btw, last year the base closing was BOS - the rumor is a downsizing of MCO shifting it to SDF.
