Where are CHQ's bases? (Current and rumored)

Is IND the only 170 base? Where else are they planning on them going?

IND and ORD. I am sure there will be more, but I would assume there will be a fence prohibiting you from bidding the -170 and me from bidding the saab. Just a guess though, and welcome to CHQ

Todd

I am sure they will prohibit me from bidding off the Saab until they begin to go away which I would imagine is going to be rather quickly.

Where are the 145 bases?

145s are in CMH, IND, SDF, RIC, LGA, BUF, MCO, FLL, STL, and GSO. I think i got em all... Too many to count now. Im running out of fingers.

Just my 2 cents i think the saabs will be around for a while though.

Matt

My 2 cents is the Saabs willbe going away as they come up for C check. I do not know what that schedule is but I am fairly sure 3 are due this year.

What is the most senior base?

I think MCO ??

How hard would it be to get FLL as a newhire?

Couple IND questions

If on the 145:

1. How long has reserve been running
2. What are the lines like, how long are the trips
3. Pro's of living in Ind, along with good area's to but a house
4. Who does CHQ fly for

Thanks

Guys and Gals,

Things like senior and JR bases and schedules and reserve time change month to month. Its so hard to pin point any details. Anyways

Take care,

Matt

1. The most junior FO in IND not on reserve for April was a 07/04 hire date.

2. Good balance of 1-4 day trips. Avg of 15 days off with a few folks getting 16-17. Min for reserve is 11, line holders get 12. Seniority and pref bid skills will get you a pretty sweet life. My last month as an FO I had 18 days off and only two nights gone. I think I was bidding 19 out of 60 FO's. It's possible that I was among the minority of FO's who preferred out and backs.

3. Cost of living is very reasonable. There are several nice communities not far from the airport. A lot of crews live on either the south side or the west side, either of which are a 15-25 minute driveway-parking lot drive. We found a starter home three bedroom two bath in the low 90's in Brownsburg which is a typical IND suburb. Go further north and it gets more expensive unless you go further west.

The pro's of IND are fairly subjective. What's important to you? I like midwestern cities with good schools and great churches. We're admittedly weak on mountains and oceans, but I'll trade that for the culture any day. IND is a big enough town to support big time stuff (Colts, Pacers, museums, symphony, etc) but feels safer than NYC or Chicago to me and my wife.

4. IND E145 crews fly UAL/DAL/US trips with flight benefits on all three.

Hope this was useful-

How much time have you spent in NYC that you did not feel safe? I have lived outside the city for most of my life and I have only felt threatened when I leave Yankee stadium at night. But luckily there are a lot of NYPD there.

I am not bashing you, I am just wondering what you based this opinion on.

On the upside, if you say it is safer than NYC then I would not need to lock my car if I moved.

Probably 2 weeks cumulative. Hopefully I was clear that I recognized that my comments were very much subjective in nature. No doubt there is a direct correlation to what is home/normal for you. I grew up in northern Indiana so Indy feels much less threatening than Gotham.

Not sure if you were serious, but we have friends who don't lock their cars or houses.

Thankfully we base crews in both cities so you can have your pick...

You live in the dumbest city in the country. Like you have any right to talk.

Excuse my ignorance.. I have not heard of the term "fence" before.. I think I have a good idea what it means, but where has it been used before in aviation? Is the prime idea to prevent crews from "bailing" off an aircraft you are already trained on?? I suppose I can't blame the higher ups for saving a buck..

Thanks W8N4UAL,
Thats the exact information I was looking for. I've been researching IND some, and it seem like a good midwestern city which is what I like.

With flight benefits on all three airlines, does that include your spouse and parents also?

No less an authority than Men's Health magazine reported this, so it MUST be true. ;)

Indianapolis is a nice city with plenty to do. I hear they also have a popular racetrack there...

Of course. When has a mistruth ever found its' way to flightinfo? :D
