Thats pretty much why I wanted the ramp job, get a foot in the door at ATA...even with all the rumors, they'll probably be around, I hope!

Just like (insert your choice of monolithic airline during the 80s here).

Metro-->Be careful about applying for the ramp position. We have some rampers working for us for a while that haven't gotten the FO job yet. Plus when you get the ramper job you need to keep up with your instrument flying so you don't fail simulator training.

ataopsdave-->congrats....flashcards work real well for limitations....

Last I heard....

HR wasn't interviewing anyone with flight time to be rampers. I guess we have quite a few rampers with 1000+ hours trying to get in that way.
I was told that they're tired of hiring someone, training them. Have them throw bags for 6 months, and then try to get into a class. It's a high turn over rate job as it is.
This all could have changed. When you talk to them, just ask. They're honest people and won't BS you.

I'm young, 18. I have 4 years of college, an IR, Multi, and Commercial and more away from any flying job. Probably should have mentioned that ;)

Thanks for the advice and info guys.

How'd ya get four years of college by 18??????
I think he's trying to say he has 4 yrs of college ahead of him before he makes a choice. Hopefully in college, he will change his hopes and dreams into Law or Med school.

"he will change his hopes and dreams into Law or Med school"

Ha ha.....if he wants to make money he will. Just kidding, Metro.....well, .......not really.....

Anyone know if they make you fill out a Flight Time grid or anything at the interview? I got the packet with the application and all, but there isn't any specific form for Flight Time. Just hoping to get a head start on what they want out of the logbooks.

Thanks!

Anyone else interviewing Thursday???

Thanks for the info there Dave...

Do you know, are they hiring into the mentioned classes or a pool? Maybe see ya around.

You know, thats a very good question, which was addressed no where in the application packet.

Hmmm...

Time to response?

I just sent in a resume last week. Anybody have a feel on how long it takes to get a response?? It's my first try in a long time (Now I'm about 1700 TT, 190 ME).

Thanks!

Upgrade time right now?

What is the upgrade time right now?

Upgrade time--> 2.5-3 years.....could be more....could be less....all depends on attrition and/or ATA survival....don't know of to many other places where it would be faster. A year ago it was 2 years.

Someone mentioned that they're "hurting for F/O's". In this environment, with so many more pilots than jobs, doesn't it say something about a company if they're hurting for pilots? I've been looking for a new job also; and am avoiding like the plague any place with moderate or high turnover.
